Jorge Rivero In A Hilarious Comedy
26 April 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Abierto Dia Y Noche (Open Day And Night)1983: Starring Jorge Rivero, Susana Dosamantes, Juan Carlos Calabro, Nelly Beltran, Hilda Aguirre, Maria Valenzuela, Tincho Zabala, Pablo Alarcon, Carlos Del Burgo, Alberto Rojas, Luisa Albinoni, Ricardo Darin, Julio De Grazia..Director Fernando Ayala For Spanish-speaking audiences and fans of Jorge Rivero and older movies (eventhough this is early 80's!) this film stars the ruggedly handsome actor Jorge Rivero in a comic role, that of a boxer who is a womanizer. The protagonist (Hilda Aguirre) is a working-class girl who cannot hide her occupation from her pregnant sister- she is working in what is basically a sex hotel/nightclub, which, like Las Vegas, is open day and night. Hilarious from the start, we follow the lives of the guests of the hotel. There are at least two married couples in this film who are cheating on their spouses. During this time, sex comedies, jokes about sex and married life and single life, were strong, though nowadays it's not as shocking or packs a punch. It did back then, when the writing for these types of films were well-made. They were not graphic in their sexual material, and there was always more innuendo than anything else. Jorge Rivero is doing a wonderful job as the seductive boxer. He was comfortable both in comedies (as with his role in El Dia Del Compadre, Day Of The God-Father) as well as serious dramatic movies. He was a versatile actor, usually playing characters stuck between heroism and villainy. He was dark, tall and handsome. The other actors were rising comedians and they are all doing a fine job, making the antics of the hotel especially attention-grabbing. A well-made movie.
