The countdown to American Horror Story: Coven has begun. Here's a look at what the new season has in store...

American Horror Story's third run is taking its particular blend of genre spookiness back to the nineteenth century, with witchcraft-focussed season Coven.

In addition to a first look at Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett's period characters - sadistic slave owner Madame Delpine Lalaurie and voodoo witch Marie Laveau respectively - there's a new poster and fresh plot details for the season below.

Jessica Lange, a mainstay of the American Horror Story cast plays a modern witch named Fiona, descended from Salem casters, who returns home following the murder of a young Salem witch. 50 Shades of Grey movie 'turned down by Black Swan's Darren Aronofsky'

Darren Aronofsky reportedly turned down the chance to direct Fifty Shades of Grey.

Sam Taylor-Johnson was confirmed to oversee the El James adaptation today (June 19).

However, the Black Swan filmmaker was offered the role last month and declined because he is still working on Biblical epic Noah, according to The Wrap.

The report also states that Sam's husband, Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, is not thought to be pursuing the role of Christian Grey.

Meanwhile, the article claims that British actress Felicity Jones is one of the frontrunners to play the part of Anastasia Steele.

Jones first found fame as Ethel Hallow in the TV series The Worst Witch. She has since gone on to star in films such as Like Crazy and Chalet Girl.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is best known for directing the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, which starred Aaron.
