This series was broadcasted between September '66 and April '68 (20 episodes). I have no recollection of the tv-series itself, as I was too young at the time. The series was originally intended for children, but during the running it attracted also the attention from older people, and soon became one of the most famous and legendary series of all time in the Netherlands.
The strange thing about the series is, that the original film tapes are no longer available. Film tapes were so expensive in the sixties that other material was recorded over the original. So re-runs are impossible, although some material was rediscovered in the nineties. But from what i have heard the stories were very basal and not very interesting.
The main attraction was without any doubt the songs, mainly performed by Hetty Blok and Leen Jongewaard. In the sixties those songs appeared on 4 LP's and in the nineties they were released on CD. The songs are nowadays (+35 years later!) still extremely popular amongst people of all ages in the Netherlands.
The songs were an unique blend of the talents of Annie MG Schmidt, a popular writer of books for children and composer Harry Bannink. The most famous songs are: "De kat van Ome Willem", "In een rijtuigje" and the title song.
