Storyline

Woody the cowboy and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger have arrived on the Super Nintendo! TOY STORY is a game that follows the story from the hit computer-generated movie. Players must take control of Woody as he tries to save Buzz from the various problems that arise. Each level is based on an event in the movie, so fans of the film will be able to recognize it immediately. The gameplay requires the player to reach the end of each level while overcoming obstacles and destroying enemies, all the while jumping to avoid quick deaths. There is not much violence in the game, as the most powerful weapon that Woody can use is the lasso attached to his back. Some levels do not even require him to use it, as there are some missions that call for stealth or speed. TOY STORY is a great game for fans of the movie with its impressive graphics, fun gameplay, and variety of levels. Written by Anthony Pereyra <hypersonic91@yahoo.com>

When you think of good games based on movies, this should come to mind.

(Please note this is the review on the SNES version of the game, not the Sega Genesis or the Game Boy Versions) Popular movies are coming out every month and some of them have such hype that games are made for them. Toy story had this kind of hype, because it was the first full-length computer animated feature to ever be seen in theatres. beforehand, companies like Pixar and Big Idea Productions were making short films with computer animations (the oldest dating back to 1986) Now, pixar had taken a big step and made Toy story. Now, With such a great movie, there needs to be a game, right?

The game follows the movie quite accurately, adding in a few extra features, like a race and a sub-conscious Battle between Woody and Buzz, and Woody going through a mode-7 3-d Maze looking for green alien men, saying "Hello?" every 10 seconds or so.

For a Platformer/Sidescroller, it actually looks really good. the 3-D backgrounds are candy to the eyes, the in-game voices are Clear, and the overall gameplay is fun. it's hard to beat, and there's no passwords or save files, so you start at the beginning every time you turn on the console, or get a game over (unless you have a continue, which you can earn after picking up 300 stars, and by the way, getting 46 to 49 stars in a level will replenish one hit point, and 50 stars will give you an extra woody....don't you feel dirty after hearing that?)

This is a game worth owning. it doesn't get too old, it looks like candy for the super Nintendo, and it's also hard to find. i have never seen a copy of this game in a pawn shop at all. i've rented it once, but never beat it. i've never seen past level 14.

8/10
