A morbid theme dealt with great humor

"Lápide" is a very humored comedy about a couple that seems to disintegrate when the happy husband (Antonio Calloni) tells to his wife (Denise Fraga) about his newest acquistion of which he's very enthusiastic: he bought a tombstone. From then on, they spend the day discussing about such morbid purchase of which comes with countless surprises when the man keeps on telling her that the special place in the cemetry will also include space for the two more people and by that time possible family members and former lovers might be included in the bargain which creates darkly funny conversations between both.

The topic is morbid but you have to be open-minded to understand that that kind of conversation actually go through some people's heads or they actually have. There are people out there concerning about their final physical destination and they worry about their burial place (mostly it's an internal concern that sometimes is shared with a family member later on). To talk about death is still a taboo, the issue swept under the rug and avoided like the plague unless it happens to someone near us, so the couple's whole conversation is "valid", albeit awkward and critical for someone on the outside - here's where the movie failed a bit, since I could imagine countless of humorous situations with a third party involved.

Calloni and Fraga chemistry is a plus, both are talented actors with Fraga being a master in comedy with her talky, neurotic character while Calloni brings his usual extra quality in playing shady, dark characters and here it accentuates the humor since for quite a time you keep wondering his joy in buying a tombstone could indicate a severe case of murder of his spouse - but he's so relaxed in parts, using of good arguments to show why it was important for him to plan the couple's future ahead. Creepy but always funny. 9/10.
