One of the better efforts from Hong Kong in 1999
samurai-1622 December 1999
A film with a strong independent touch. Nice camera work, US post production and a convincing plot. Shown on several festivals (Cannes, Montreal, New York, Berlin and others), this is a film about a former triad member and now drug addict trying to start a new life with his girl. In flashbacks his story is told, how he got into the triads, how his wife was killed and how he became addicted to drugs. The end is depressive. For all those who hate Wong Jing movies... I viewed the HK VCD, which is letterboxed, with english subtitles and credits. Recommended, though not as good as for example "Where a Good Man Goes".
