Donkey Kong is and always will be THE BEST if you have nothing else better to do, 10 July 2007
10/10

I was crazy about King Kong both 1933 and 1976 versions. When I turned 10 in 1981 at Addalin's Palace in the Granite Run Mall, my brother introduced me to Donkey King . . . it featured "King Kong" throwing barrels down at Mario who was trying to rescue a kidnapped girl JUST LIKE KING KONG in the sense of the kidnapped girl . . Donkey Kong therefore became a mighty Joe young descendant my mind. Then the next year COLECOVISION brought Donkey Kong home and followed by the LED stand alone version. After which Donkey Kong Jr and Donkey Kong 3 cam along. I still have my two-screen LCD Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 2 games in my nightstand. My reflexes are just as sharp too even. Of course some people will not find this helpful. But I'm nuts about Donkey Kong. and of course we cant forget the awesome ADAM computer super game packs and the Atari 2600 King Kong and Odyssey 2's Pick-AX Pete spin offs. PLEASE RELSEASE DONKEY KONH for Gamecube and Wii in its original form!!!!

This game was a giant stepping stone to Mario's success!, 8 July 2002
Author: Ryan Harrison (cornflake101) from Aspatria, England

Many people think that the only thing about Nintendo is consoles and games. Actually, only about 70% of it is. In 1890 Nintendo was founded by a Japanese man named Fusajiro Yamauchi, and they were a successful card company. By the 1950s their company had expanded and by the 1970s they were selling toys. Due to the popularity of video game consoles they decided to make their own. They hired Nintendo's soon-to-be-top-man Shigeru Miyamoto in 1977 and they created the Game-And-Watch device. It failed miserably and Nintendo were starting to run out of money. So in 1980 Shigeru promised to make things right when he started developing his new game, DONKEY KONG. The game was finished by 1981 and released on arcades worldwide. Unbelievably the game was a massive success and Miyamoto had saved Nintendo. This game starred Jumpman the carpenter (soon to become Mario the plumber), a giant, stupid ape called Donkey Kong, and Mario's girlfriend Pauline. Jumpman has to climb a giant construction site to save Pauline, but Donkey Kong has planned many tricks and traps which Jumpman must get past. The game is very fun and a huge revolution for Nintendo. Yes, it is over 20 years since the excitement began and now gamers of today would laugh in the face of this game, it is definitely one of the greatest classics ever to come from the greatest game company of all time.

The game that started it all, 17 April 2000
9/10
Author: rasmus-9 from Skagen, Denmark

Back in 1981 Nintendo was on the verge of bankruptcy. So the hired this unknown man called Shigeru Miyamoto to do a game for them.

The game was called Donkey Kong and starred a little carpenter called Jump Man who would later change his name to Mario and become the most famous videogame-hero of all time.

The game itself was a the time revolutionary. Not only was the first real platformer, but it was also the first game with a story of some sort.

Today the game is of course outdated, but it still stands as one of the most important games ever.

The first Mario game!, 22 May 2006
6/10
Author: The_Wagon from United States

This arcade game was the first game to ever feature Mario, who was then known as Jump Man. He became Mario in the 1983 arcade hit Mario Bros, which is the first appearance of Luigi. Donkey Kong is also the first game to feature Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong kidnaps Mario's girlfriend Pauline, and Mario must save her. You have to go through 3(the arcade version had 4) levels and dodge barrels that are thrown at you by DK. There are other things to avoid like fireballs and more. Now, this game isn't that good. It's mediocre. It was great many years ago, but now, not so great. If you haven't played it, borrow it from a friend who has an NES, Atari, or Collecovision. It's also on GBA. Don't pay the 20 dollar price for the GBA version. Borrow, don't buy. I give this a 6 out of 10.

Classic video game, 27 May 2005
Author: MovieAddict2012 from UK

The first time I played "Donkey Kong" was on N64 believe it or not - it was included as an easter egg no "Donkey Kong 64" which was, like "Mario 64," a 3-D Kong adventure.

At one point in the game, playing as Kong, you get to activate an old arcade game and play the original 1981 version of the video game.

It's actually a great deal of fun, and very hard at times to progress. You play as Jumpman (Mario before he was given a name I suppose), a little guy in a red cap who jumps up and down a lot. You have to progress through levels jumping over objects that Donkey Kong throws at you. Your object is to rescue the girl he is holding hostage. (Ah, a nice King Kong homage.) Overall this is a very fun classic video game that still holds up to this day despite its poor graphics. A must-play for any gamer!

Outdated? Maybe. A classic? Definitely., 21 September 2001
Author: SpideyTerry from Ardmore, PA

This game came out twenty years ago and remains one of the most important video games ever. Due in part because it was the first to have a real story. However, it is mainly because this was the first appearance of the most famous video game character, Mario. Of course, he's known as Jump Man, a carpenter, in this game.

In the game, you play Jump Man and have to rescue a girl from Donkey Kong. Of course, you have to dodge all sorts of traps along the way. The graphics are vastly outdated compared to today's standards, but this game totally rocks. Thumbs up!

An important moment in video games., 23 January 2002
Author: dootuss from PA

Without a doubt, "Donkey Kong" marked a big moment in video game history. It was the first ever video game to have a story, and it introduced us to a carpenter named "Jumpman" (soon to be known as Mario of "Super Mario Brothers" fame) who had to save his girlfriend from the clutches of Donkey Kong while avoiding enemies like rolling barrels. While the game is outdated by today's standards of video games, it's still worth a playing.

Still fun today, 9 September 2000

Sure this game is old, but it still fun to play. Whocares the graphics are outdated. This game is very fun, that's one of the main reasons we play video games. This is a very challenging game. You will never get tired of playing Donkey Kong, it is a very addictive game.

I give this game 9 out of 10

Pretty boring by today's standards., 10 August 2006

Rated E.

Donkey Kong is the first game in the series of sequels and spin off's to the donkey kong series.A good aspect of the game is it introduces Donkey Kong,Princess and Mario who would become very famous in about four years with Super Mario Bros.Anyway this game was pretty good for 1981.The gameplay was fun and the graphics were normal for the 80's.However games have really changed in terms of graphics and gameplay.Donkey Kong seems very dated now.But its a sort of fun game to play if you have nothing else to do.You play as Jumpman(or Mario) and you must rescue Princess from a big giant ape called Donkey Kong(who looks much different from today's games). You must dodge barrels that DK throws at you.Donkey Kong is a good game for the 80's but dated for today.

6/10

might be your mom's game, but still fun., 24 August 2005

You can bet a hundred bucks to someone that they've played this game. people have played this for generations, and all of them have had fun, one way or another.

Donkey Kong, a giant ape, breaks out from the local Zoo (or at least i think he did.) and kidnaps a woman named Paula. so, it's up to jump-man (also known as Mario) to go and rescue this woman, and defeat the monkey who stole her.

Donkey Kong has come a long way. from enemy, to good guy, to dumb ass. in the second version of the donkey Kong games, he was captured and Mario was holding him there. so Mario isn't all you think he is. but nowadays, DK and Mario don't hate each other. they just beat each other up every now and then. play super smash bros to do stage a fight between the 2.

this outdated, but fun game gets 8/10
