The first series was good, but after that...
1 July 2007 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

This series wouldn't be so blacklisted if they came up with better plots and deeper characters! The first series I loved, Ash going to all these different places, collecting badges and meeting new friends, but as the second series kicked in, it was getting obvious that things were getting repetitive on Dragon Ball Z-like levels.

In series #2, it's the same formula every episode. Ash finds a new Pokemon, Team Rocket tries to nab it, Pikachu does thunderbolt and Team Rocket blasts off again.

Series 1 had Richie, Gary and Ash's rivalry, and Meowth dressing up with Hitler. Where was the Nazi cosplaying in Series 2? Now, compared to most child-aimed anime, Pokemon has little characterization. All the characters seem one-dimensional, and that's no fun. Why can't Ash have a tragic past where all of his childhood Pokemon were savagely massacred by an evil gang? All in all, I give this show a 3, for being very entertaining for the first 90 episodes, but falling shortly after that. And lacking characterization.
