All grown up, pleasingly plump Doris Grey (as Sylvia Leigh) returns home from boarding school to live with father J.H. Gilmore. He tells Ms. Grey about a dreaded enemy, who must be found and killed. After Mr. Gilmore sees the man, he has a sudden heart attack and dies. Grey decides to fulfill her father's wishes, which puts her in understandable danger. With nasty and duplicitous characters threatening to close in on Grey, she is saved by brawny Wayne Arey. Grey falls in love with the mysterious man, then learns he is the man her beloved father persuaded Grey to kill...

The AFI Catalog of feature films will reveal the outcome, which involves spies and the U.S. Secret Service. Thanhouser's "Her Beloved Enemy" is a lost, and not likely to be seen again, film. Julian Johnson reviewed it favorably in "Photoplay" (May 1917). He thought, "Wayne Arey is delightful as the big lover, and Doris Grey equally appropriate as Sylvia." After revealing the entire plot, Mr. Johnson added, "An extremely clever scene is the man's burglarizing of a safe in an office building, and his outwitting, in neat fashion, of a night watchman and a policeman."
