I love this series so much....
28 February 2006 | by (Ireland) – See all my reviews

I remembering watching this when i was quiet young and gradually been drawn into the story. A young man goes from been a factory worker to teaching in a tough loverly comprehensive. Issues of race, teenage suicide and homophobia are all touched upon. although its been quiet a while since i've seen it, i found it very moving on first viewing. McGoverns characters are so well drawn and the main performance of Christopher Ecclestone is magnificent. Underrated and emotionally draining Hearts and Minds might not be regarded as McGoverns best but it is still an impressive work of art. The film also bears some resemblance to Ecclestones subsequent film Jude. In that both are about working class men trying to improve themselves through education and endeavour but ultimately finding the world has other plans for them.
