Trivia

In addition to new character designs, the characters personalities have been altered greatly. Priss is much more stoic in 2040 than she was in the original version, while Sylia, originally very stoic in the first series, is now very emotional. Linna is given much more screen time and depicted as being an idealistic farm girl rather than as a shallow, greedy man-eater. Nene is also much more aggressive (and arrogant) than she was in the original version. The character of Daley Wong is also more subdued and no longer depicted as a homosexual caricature, as he was in the original series. The Leon McNichol character is also different, more of a "tough guy" and less of a pretty boy. See more »

Goofs

In "One Of These Nights", Leon's weight trainer glove disappears from his hand in the close up of him showing Priss the video scan of the soldiers who are moving in to Tokyo to fight the boomer plague. See more »

Quotes

Sylia Stingray: So, how can I help you? Have you finally tired of that worn-leather look?
[touches Priss's hair]
Sylia Stingray: Oh, and look at all those split ends. You'll need a new conditioner.
Priss S. Asagiri: I want my pay.
Sylia Stingray: Hmm? Oh, yes, of course. I haven't paid you for the last one, have I?
[goes over to her counter, opens up her purse]
Sylia Stingray: You know, it wouldn't hurt you to wear the clothes that I recommend every once in a while.
Priss S. Asagiri: I wear your hard suits, isn't that enough?

A great remake of a classic series
8 January 2001 | by (Keene NH USA) – See all my reviews

The original Bubblegum Crisis came out in 1985 and spawned a very popular following on both sides of the pacific. It was also one of the earliest anime titles to get a video release in the states. An 8-part OAV series, it was a mix of Charlies's Angels, Batman, and Terminator. Now, it's been remade as a television series. Although the animation has a much cleaner look and incredibly vivid color, it's not as fluid as the original OAVs, but that shouldn't be a problem. The story expands on the concepts of the OAV, and exceeds them to a degree. It's also much darker, to an extent. The Boomer design isn't as realistic as those in the original OAVs-here, the Boomers appear more like Zombies or Monsters when they go nuts. The character designs and personalities are also very different(and very 90's) But the changes help improve the series rather than hinder it. Overall, it's very pleasing.
