Frank Davenport loses heavily at cards and in order to pay his gambling debts, raises his father's check from $200 to $2,200. Feeling that he has disgraced himself and his family, he immediately leaves for the west, there to begin life anew. Virginia, the ward of Col. Davenport, learns, through an official of the bank of the fraud practiced by Frank, and out of love for him and in order to keep the knowledge of his offense from the parents, she turns her small inheritance to the bank. Some time later, Frank learns that his father is dying, and returning home to ask his forgiveness be finds that his parents never knew of his dishonesty, and owing to Virginia, he is still their pride and joy.
