‘The Powerpuff Girls’ DVD “The Last Donnycorn” Backs the Wrong Magical Horse

15 August 2017 1:01 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The latest DVD release of Cartoon Network's rebooted series The Powerpuff Girls puts the modern version's special "The Last Donnycorn" front and center. Unfortunately, this 22-minute story featuring Donny the Unicorn is the weakest effort of this 12-episode release, a decision which masks some gems from the Emmy-nominated series. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup remain as cute and combat-ready as ever as they fight to protect Townsville from the forces of evil and try to have a normal childhood despite their superpowers. Their time is better spent doing anything else besides babysitting an annoying Donnycorn, … »

Lego Dimensions & Marvel Super Heroes 2 Hands On Preview: Brick By Brick [E3 2017]

16 June 2017 9:26 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

While bigger titles such as Middle-Earth: Shadow of War might be dominating the water-cooler talk when it comes to Warner Bros. Interactive, gamers would be doing themselves a disservice if they were to simply ignore the 2017 lineup of Lego titles.

I’ll be the first to say; whoever oversees the branding and content acquisition for Lego Dimensions is a genius, and deserves an award for consistently acquiring franchises which will undoubtedly win over gamers, old and new. The original (and still readily available) starter pack shipped with Gandalf, Lego Batman and Wyldstyle, a rather clever combination of characters that allowed for varied gameplay experiences throughout the ‘core’ story mode.

Since its original release, Warner Bros. has continued to build upon its take on the ‘toys-to-life’ genre, rapidly acquiring new franchises to undergo the Lego treatment. From video game themed content (Portal, Sonic the Hedgehog) to classic 80s franchises (The A-Team »

The 20 Best Animated TV Shows of the 21st Century, Ranked

30 May 2017 11:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The evolution of animation on television has been thrilling to behold over the last several years, as creators use the medium’s unlimited potential to explore what is possible not just on a visual level, but on a storytelling level.

It doesn’t matter the target audience — some of the most emotional narratives, relevant satire and beautiful filmmaking on television this century has its roots in a format that many might write off as “just for kids.” Not so: Animation, like television in general, is very much a writers’ medium. That’s why even writers rooted in live-action series, like Dan Harmon and Bill Lawrence, have found themselves dabbling in the animated world.

Below, IndieWire spotlights some of the most important and relevant series of the binge TV era, with series that excites not in spite of the fact that it’s animated, but because of it.

MIPTV Feels Full Impact of Digital TV Revolution

6 April 2017 7:54 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Cannes — Graced by enticing pre-l.A. screenings of Disney and Lionsgate shows and large excitement at sneak-peaked scenes from Adam Price’s “Ride Upon the Storm” and Tom Tykwer’s “Babylon Berlin,” 2017’s MipTV trade fair underscored why Hollywood still dominates much of global TV, as well as the new raised bar of ambition of European dramas.

Amazon’s Roy Price laid out plans for Amazon to drive into more originals, though he did not go into specifics. Both Amazon and Netflix took meetings with key content suppliers at MipTV. Meanwhile, MipTV caught the TV business, and indeed the world, in vertiginous transition, thanks in business terms to a phenomenon little short of a revolution: the global broadcast of foreign-language shows, currently driven by Netflix.

Change, however, goes beyond that. Not for nothing, The Wit’s Virginia Mouseler drilled down in a Wednesday Fresh TV Fiction on 2017 as the “Year of Trans-Genre, »

Cartoon Network’s new programming lineup is designed to connect with younger viewers who are increasingly accustomed to engaging with favorite programs across multiple screens and formats.

The Time Warner- owned kids’ cable outlet, which suffered linear ratings declines in the core kids 2-11 demo in 2016, will push to weave itself into viewers’ spheres of activity with a new content slate that calls for six new series, seven returning programs and more than 20 original mobile and console games Among the new offerings is the U.S. launch of a revamped “Ben 10,” a massive sci-fi franchise that generated big ratings and sales of consumer products between 2007 and 2013.

“Everything we do is multi-screen from the moment it is thought of,” Christina Miller, president of Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Adult Swim, told Variety. “We have this true ‘always-on’ mentality. Idw Brings Funko To Comics This May

18 February 2017 9:29 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

By now, you’ve no doubt seen Funko Pop! Vinyls at retailers – most likely Hot Topic, where they dominate a good chunk of floor or wall space – and possibly own one yourself, or at least know somebody who can’t get enough of the cutesy interpretations of pop culture characters.

This May, thanks to publisher Idw, Funko are set to take the leap into comics as part of “Funko Universe Month.” At first, I was wondering if they’d have to create original characters before getting the full details that came with the announcement, but luckily, they’re taking full advantage of some of the many popular franchises Idw has license to.

As for which properties will get the treatment, readers can look forward to five one-shots that will give some of their favorite characters the small body, big head makeover: Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The X-Files, Strawberry Shortcake and Judge Dredd. »
