‘Family Guy’ Won’t Do Any More ‘Star Wars’ Parodies, and Here’s Why

23 July 2016 2:05 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Don’t expect to see any more “Star Wars” parodies from Fox’s animated hit “Family Guy.”

The show produced three “Star Wars” homages (2007’s “Blue Harvest,” 2009’s “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” and 2010’s “It’s a Trap!”) several years ago. But that was back before Disney acquired Lucasfilm and jumpstarted the franchise.

“The new regime is a little more difficult to deal with,” executive producer Alec Sulkin said. “Before we were just dealing with Lucasfilm. Seth [MacFarlane] had a good relationship with them. It’s not that Seth has a bad relationship with Disney, but they’re a bit more rigid.”

Executive producer Rich Appel said it was understandable, as “they’re a little more careful now that they’re rolling out new movies.”

‘Vikings’ Exclusive Trailer: History Channel’s Brutal Historical Drama Returns For Another Season

22 July 2016 6:45 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Shows like “Game of Thrones” get much of widespread genre love, but there are plenty of other series that involve a large ensemble cast, period settings and costumes, intense action sequences, and insightful examinations of social and political issues. Look no further than the History Channel’s historical drama series “Vikings,” which follows the exploits of legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok. Inspired by Norse sagas like “Ragnars saga Loðbrókar” and “Ragnarssona þáttr,” the series examines the raiders, traders, and explorers who wished to conquer new lands and discover civilizations around the world. Watch an exclusive sneak peek from the new season that was shown at the “Vikings” panel at Comic Con today.

‘Archer’ Season 8 Trailer Answers Season 7 Cliffhanger, Introduces ‘Dreamland’

22 July 2016 5:35 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

[Spoiler Warning: The below reveals details for “Archer” Season 8 as well as the Season 7 finale.]

The big question following “Archer” Season 7 was the one everyone wanted answered at the FX comedy’s Comic-Con panel Friday afternoon, and the producers & cast wasted no time in letting everyone know what’s next for Archer: “Dreamland.”

At the end of Season 7, it appeared as though Archer died while solving the season-long mystery surrounding Veronica Deane. But the trailer shown to the Comic-Con audience (and not yet available online) found Archer still alive, but in a coma.

That doesn’t mean the season is free from tragedy. Following the death of voice actor George Coe — who played Archer’s butler, Woodhouse — Adam Reed decided it best to end his character’s arc rather than permanently recast him. The trailer showed the “Archer” characters dressed in black, attending Woodhouse’s funeral — all of them except Archer, who was revealed to be stuck in a coma for the three months following his shooting (aka, »

‘The 100’ Dodges Controversy Even As It Mourns Lexa At San Diego Comic-Con

22 July 2016 2:44 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The CW’s “The 100” has more than earned its reputation for being one of the most brutal shows on television, but nothing hit its audience harder than the moment in Season 3 when Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey), just after sleeping with Clarke (Eliza Taylor) for the first time, was killed by accident. The outrage over the show falling prey to the “lesbian death trope” was epic — in a season full of death, Lexa became an icon for how Lgtbq characters and characters of color seem to die an awful lot more than others.

Hence, Comic-Con opened up a potential opportunity for the show’s creators and cast to speak directly to the issue. Except it didn’t happen. Discussion of the ultra-heavy post-apocalyptic drama stayed relatively light during the panel, with moderator Eric Goldman keeping the discussion focused on plot developments for Season 4. The Season 3 highlight reel below teased some of these upcoming obstacles. »

‘Silicon Valley’: Mike Judge and Cast Tease Next Season at Comic-Con

21 July 2016 5:42 PM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

The “Silicon Valley” writers are back to work and breaking stories for Season 4 – and one thing’s for certain: The Pied Piper crew will continue to experience both highs and lows.

“We feel the guys are outsiders,” executive producer Alec Berg told the audience Thursday at “Silicon Valley’s” San Diego Comic-Con panel. “As soon as they become the winners, the show gets less interesting.”

Added executive producer Mike Judge: “It’s more fun to watch these guys be uncomfortable and fail and be humiliated. They’re funnier that way. If they become successful and live happily ever after it will be less fun to watch.”

That doesn’t mean the crew won’t continue to occasionally experience victories. “[The show] does a good job of having plausible triumphs,” said Zach Woods (who plays Jared).

Extreme Ghostbusters: revisiting an underappreciated cartoon

14 July 2016 6:15 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Stephen Harber Jul 18, 2016

We look back at an often-overlooked part of the Ghostbusters legacy: it's Extreme Ghostbusters...

There was a time when no one cared about Ghostbusters. It was the late 90s - the pre-Pokemon, post-Mighty Morphin Power Rangers days to be exact. Nobody’s kid was exactly clamouring for a sequel, reboot, or a Ghostbusters continuation of any kind - except for Dan Aykroyd, who was practically lobbying for a third instalment while sitting front row at the Ghostbusters II premiere. Which is why we have this: an awkwardly timed, tonally disruptive Ghostbusters animated series.

Enter a brand new cartoon that picked up the sticky, ectoplasm-covered mantle of The Real Ghostbusters and wore it slightly askew to evoke that wholesome sense of 1990s irreverence: Extreme Ghostbusters.

Living up to its name, Xgb was extreme indeed. One glance at its radically inclusive team line-up is all you need to notice that. »
