Nice Puff Piece
Every once in a while, one of the studio's screen magazines would do a piece about their cartoon departments. In this episode of Lowell Thomas' GOING PLACES, he narrates the production of one of Walter Lantz' Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoons, specifically SOFTBALL GAME.
We get to see a shortened version of the production routine of the cartoon, the large number of people and expensive machinery involved in the process. We also get a look at Walter Lantz who, at this point, is a tall balding man.
Given that, as a child, I thought that Hanna and Barbera simply drew the Flintstones, it's nice to have pieces like this. As an adult, it helps me to appreciate how capital intensive a cartoon is.
