Terrible flick from the late 90's

Amitabh Bachan was an awesome actor who shined through the 70's and 80's baring hideous mistakes like Jaadugar and Toofan, he even did good films in the 90's but this all became hideous after 1994 Insaniyat which was a disaster. After this movie, Bachan was only delivering flop and after 2 back to back hits like Major Saab and Bade Miya Chote Miy, Big B came to his worst movie Lal Baadshah which flopped badly. The movie was a washout it, it had a stroy which would have worked in the 50's or 60's but not the 90's. This has got to be Bachan's worst performance. Even Mrityudaata was better than this crap. The story is the same Messiah story where only one person can save the world from injustice. There are lots of common ingredients and obvious twists in the story and the climax is soo stupid where Big B and his father Big B kill and finish the villains which was a common climax in the end. Nirupa Roy playes Big B's mother again after so many films like Mard and Suhaag and the classic Dewaar. Big B's father is Big B. Again we have a father son tale. It is so stupid how the fath Amitavh survives even after getting shot by Amrish Puri 5 times. The stunts are old and outdated. K.C Bokadia is the worst director in the world and he is famous for making craps like Insaniyat ke Devta. Therefore, I had little expectation from this film but that also died. The only thing that stands out in thr film is Big B's acting. Overall, a must avoid film.

Amitabh's bad days

1/10

The 90s were the worst period for Amitabh, except Aaj Ka Arjun(1990) and Hum in 1991 almost all his films sank, Amitabh was in his 50s and still was offered lead roles. He took a break post 1992 though Insaniyat released in 1994 and came back with Mrithyudatta(1997) which was a flop, except Bade Miyan Chote Miyan(1998) all his films sank. Lal Baadhsh was supposed to release in 1998 but due to financial problems it released in 1999. In the film we have Amitabh trying to pass off as a young messiah romancing Shilpa Shetty and Manisha Koirala, do stunts.etc The role is an extension or a spoof on Shaheenshah(1988) here too Lal Baadshah is a messiah, he has an estrant father again played by himself, surprisingly in the same year Amitabh had a dual role in Sooryansham. It also has the last appearance of Nirupa Roy who died in 2004, in her last film too she plays Big B's mother. The film seems straight out of 80s, afterall the director being KC Bokadia who helped Amitabh get a hit in his bad days(Aaj Ka Arjun). The film is really boring and predictable. Another joke is the actress who played Amitabh's sister in Aaj Ka Arjun plays his real mother in this film.

Direction is nothing great Music is okay, I Like Your Eyes is a nice song but it looks odd see the 50+ Amitabh dance to some tunes. Action scenes are straight out of 80s films

Amitabh Bachchan looks aged, wrinkled but yet does lend some flair to his stupid role, In his elder role he is okay too. Manisha Koirala gets hardly anything much to do, Shilpa Shetty is okay Mohan Joshi, Amrish Puri, Mukesh Rishi and all are as usual. Nirupa Roy is as usual,Shakti Kapoor is okay

A travesty!

Author: long-ford from India

This was a career low-point for Amitabh Bachchan. The much loved superstar showed monumentally bad judgment in agreeing to appear in this turkey. Reprising the age old story of the glorious hero who is the messiah of the poor, Amitabh cuts a ridiculous figure. Manisha Koirala embarrasses herself in a silly role. After about forty five minutes, it seems the directer threw in the towel, as scenes become incoherent and the editing haphazard. Barring a couple of the tunes, most of the soundtrack is boring. A 'must avoid' film which could be seriously injurious to your health!

Overall 1/10

Painful Spoof !!!

3/10

Amitabh's reprisal of role on the lines of Robin Hood and rescues the masses from the Bad Trio (Amrish Puri and his "screen sons" - Raghuvaran & Mukesh Rishi).

Lal Baadshah has a weak storyline and scenes and songs have been joint together to make this a three-hour torture.Manisha (an insurance agent of the new generation) & Shilpa Shetty (reformed lawyer's daughter) are pile-ons.

It's disheartening to see Amitabh stooping to such a depth, after being a Hollywood icon for nearly a decade and half. Consider Lal Badshah on the lines of his career's all-time lows "Jadugar" & "Mrityudaata".
