Could the Time Warner/Fox fight disrupt college football?

In the words of Martin Lawrence from Bad Boys 2, "s#&$ just got real."
The never-ending spat between Time Warner Cable and the Fox dynasty could put some big college football games in jeopardy of not getting any airtime. If the two sides don't reach some kind of middle ground soon, it could put the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, the Fedex Orange Bowl and the Allstate Sugar Bowl in danger of a blackout.
Of course, the threat of losing the American earned right to sit on the couch and watch an endless series of football games during a holiday has spurred the government to take action. Senator John Kerry, the head of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Communication, Technology, and the Internet, has sent a letter to the two companies asking them to finish this thing up by New Years' Day. I wonder, can Congress declare war on a major media conglomerate?

Muse, Robert Pattinson, Linkin Park, Paramore . . . you know the names. These are all fantastic artists that made their way onto a little soundtrack called Twilight last year. A soundtrack which made its way to the top of the Billboard 200 list (to be followed by its certified platinum sequel New Moon), in ... r O Brother, Where Art Thou?, High School Musical, 8 Mile, Hannah Montana, High School Musical 2, and Hannah Montana 2 (okay, so no one said these were all the greatest choices), Twilight comes in taking the lead above heavy-hitters like Shrek, Chicago, Moulin Rouge, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Mamma Mia!, The Cheetah Girls, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Coyote Ugly, Bad Boys II, Ray, Tupac: Resurrection, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Get Rich Or Die Tryin', The Cheetah Girls 2, Walk The Line, Camp Rock, and Garden State.

Part 2: From Andrew Sachs to Harry Potter
Andrew Sachs Sent the Beeb into cautious compliance meltdown
If Manuel had bothered to pick up his phone, Ross and Brand wouldn't have been tempted to leave their naughty messages, the Daily Mail wouldn't have been able to work itself up into a hypocritical moralistic lather, thousands of people who'd never heard the original show wouldn't have rung in to complain, Russell Brand would still have his Radio 2 show instead of Alan bleedin' Carr, and the BBC wouldn't get all jumpy every time Frankie Boyle made jokes about the Queen's fanny. See Also The Satanic Slut
Steve Jobs Killed the album with his zero-attention-span 'apps'
It was supposed to be so easy. Get your CDs, rip them in to iTunes, put them on your iPod. Then, whenever a latent desire to listen to Reo Speedwagon arose you could sate it right away.

HBO’s ‘The Pacific’ Trailer

HBO is bringing us The Pacific, a WWII story of what went down in the Pacific while the men from Band of Brothers were fighting in Europe.
The series is based on the memoirs of Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie, both of whom were Marines that served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. It was produced by (you guessed it) Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks (both of whom produced BoB) and Gary Goetzman (producer of Charlie Wilson’s War).
Joseph Mazzello and James Badge Dale have tackled the roles of Sledge and Leckie, respectively. John Seda rounds out the lead parts playing Sergeant John Basilone. Mazzello played the little boy in Jurassic Park (!) all those years ago, Dale popped up in The Departed and The Black Donnellys and Seda’s a former boxer who appeared in Twelve Monkeys and more recently, Bad Boys II.
Here’s the trailer for The Pacific.

When you’re Will Smith and you’re not currently attached to any film, life is good. It’s a little less good when the news comes out that your potential Oldboy adaptation with Steven Spielberg is dead and the entire Internet cheers. But you pick yourself up, say a hearty, “Awhellnaw”, and move on to then next project, which could be another adaptation of Daniel Keyes’ novel Flowers for Algernon. Hit the jump to pull a hammer out of your skull and raise your Iq.
Latino Review reports the joyous news that Steven Spielberg and Will Smith’s planned adaptation of the Japanese manga Oldboy, which was turned into the intensely-loved 2003 film of the same name, will not be happening. Mandate Pictures and DreamWorks pictures were to secure the rights together, they didn’t see eye-to-eye, walked away, and that breeze you felt was every film lover breathing a sigh of relief.

World War Z Screenwriter to Adapt Shattered Union for [sic] Disney

What can't Jerry Bruckheimer do? The producer behind such film classics as Bad Boys 2 and Kangaroo Jack is producing an adaptation of 2K Games' strategy war game Shattered Union, Variety reports. To give Brucks some credit, he has hired World War Z writer J. Michael Straczynski to adapt the game into a screenplay.
The big mystery is how Straczynski and Brucks are going to make Shattered Union for Disney, especially since the game was about secession of the United States that occurs after a nuclear explosion destroys Washington D.C. Maybe they'll animate it!
We also hope that Straczynski is given a chance to write a screenplay that gets made, unlike his World War Z experience. Despite huge praise, especially from author Max Brooks, Matthew Michael Carnahan was brought in to re-write the script.
Now, please add zombies to your script, Mr. Straczynski.

Fight Club hit theaters ten years ago today. The film was critically divisive, struggled with the right marketing, and had a lukewarm run at the box office. But then came the overstuffed two-disc Special Edition DVD, complete with a fake-cardboard slipcase. It was exactly the right kind of gorgeously overproduced fetish object demanded by the burgeoning DVD zeitgeist. Right in time for the ascendance of internet geek culture, Fight Club invented a whole new artistic species – the mass-marketed cult film.
Passed along from friend to friend in a DVD case that looked like a box of anthrax, it was the

Apparently power producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been attempting to adapt Lorenzo Carcaterra's novel Apaches since 1997 when Disney beat out Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers in a huge bidding war for the property. While writers like Marshall Todd (Bad Boys II), David Klass (Walking Tall) and many more have given it a shot, it sounds like no one cracked it. Now Bruckheimer is letting another writing duo take a stab at it as Variety reports Sean O'Keefe and Will Staples will try to adapt the gritty crime story about a group of retired renegade cops who take it upon themselves to deliver justice in New York City.
The writing duo of O'Keefe and Staples has generated significant buzz after two of their scripts (World's Most Wanted and an adaptation of another novel, The Cruelest Miles) were picked up for production. They are also responsible for delivering The Murder of King Tut

Jerry Bruckheimer has been developing a movie version of the novel Apaches since he acquired the rights to the novel in 1997, but the mega-producer isn't one to give up easy, and has just hired two new screenwriters to have a new crack at the script. Sean O'Keefe and Will Staples are the latest to try their hands at a story of renegade New York cops that's just crying out for a film version. The book, by Sleepers author Lorenzo Carcaterra, sees a group of pensioned-off NYPD cops set themselves a new mission to continue to fight crime even without the law. The six friends - one of whom has mafia rather than cop connections - set themselves against an Arizona-based drug cartel baroness known as Lucia, both sides using their cross-country connections to strike against one another. The plan is to base the new script only loosely on the novel,

Roland Emmerich Says Independence Day 2 Won’t Happen Until Will Smith Stops Saying “Aw, Hell Naw”.

I don’t think anyone is clamoring for an “Independence Day 2″ especially since it would be strange if the aliens, now using iMacs running Os X and thus totally immune to viruses*, decided to come back and attack again on the same damn day. Maybe they could attack on a different holiday. Labor Day? President’s Day? Martin Luther King Day? Whenever they plan to attack, director Roland Emmerich says they’ll have to delay their plans until Will Smith decides to do the project. Hit the jump to campaign for “Flag Day”.
Speaking with Latino Review, Roland Emmerich had this to say about the project’s paralysis:
Dean Devlin and I are still set to make a sequel likely because we’ve found some sort of idea and we approached Fox and Fox has not quite figured out how to incorporate Dean’s and my deal, and Will’s (Smith) deal.

10 Great Films You Didn’t Know Were Directed By Women

From decrying a severe lack of female filmmakers to satirically mocking the concept of judging actresses by how much return on investment they offer, it seems like we've been balls-deep in feminism lately.
We realize that you, dear reader, believe that only men are allowed to direct movies, but that's just not true! Women have a long and storied history with the art of filmmaking, and even though it will probably upset your precious little chauvinist default settings, we're here to tell you that some of your favorite explosions, quotable comedies and fight scenes are directed by the fairer sex. In fact, some of your very favorite films had women at the helm.
Leave your Neanderthal preconceived notions about woman filmmakers at the door, and prepare for your mind to be blown.
