Many of us grew up with TV shows on Disney Channel, planning our Friday nights around the premiere of every single new Disney Channel Original Movie. We laughed, we cried and we prayed that our secret twin sibling would show up out of nowhere, while simultaneously finding out that our mother was born a leprechaun.
The last few years have given all Disney Channel kids hope with the return of That’s So Raven and Boy Meets World via their respective spinoffs, Raven’s Home and Girl Meets World. (Adult Shawn Hunter, anyone?) If you love baby Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sanderson sisters as much as the rest of the world, you probably jumped for joy when a Hocus Pocus remake was announced. Oh, and who can forget the huge news that the Wildcats will return to East High in High School Musical 4?
Sure, all of these reboots are great, but so many more...

I'm a sucker for animation, so I can't wait for Dreamworks' Rise Of The Guardian's. They have a good track record with entertaining, fun movies, such as Madagascar, Shrek, and Kung Fu Panda, and since the movie is basically The Avengers with Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, and other childhood characters, fun is one thing it is sure to deliver. Either way the kids will love it. Despite my incessant frustration regarding Hollywood's obsession with adapting established intellectual property and books, somtimes a decent enough idea comes along that makes me forget my woes. Such is the case with Variety's recent announcement of DreamWorks Animation's new project The Guardians (due out in 2012), an adaptation of an upcoming series of books written by author William Joyce (who wrote children's books like Rolie Polie Olie and George Shrinks) which focuses on an Avengers-like assembly of imaginary icons like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny who protect children from the forces of evil. The film will be adapted from the forthcoming series entitled The Guardians of Childhood which is set to be published in 2011 (a long ways out). The guardians themselves are made-up of childhood imaginary heroes including Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, the Man in the Moon, Jack Frost and many more. This isn't the first time Joyce's ...

DreamWorks Animation caught the screen rights to kids book writer William Joyce's upcoming new work The Guardians and is in the early stages of developing it as a film slated for release in November 2012. Now the studio has hired David Lindsay-Abaire to adapt Joyce's work for the screen, giving the project a little bit of oomph because the writer is a Pulitzer Price winner for his lyrics on Shrek the Musical.
The book won't be out until the year before the movie. Joyce, the creator of George Shrinks, Rolie Polie Olie and Meet the Robinsons, will also receive a co-direction credit under director Peter Ramsey, newly promoted after acting as the head of story development on Monsters vs. Aliens.

Walt Disney Feature Animation, which is expected to reveal plans to close down its Orlando animation facility today, has announced a new animated film that will be produced at the company's Burbank studios. The computer-animated A Day With Wilbur Robinson is an adaptation of William Joyce's 1990 book, a comedy-adventure about a boy genius who creates a time machine. The Florida animation unit has produced three features -- Mulan, Lilo & Stitch and Brother Bear. Its closure has been expected ever since the studio shut down its most recent production, A Few Good Ghosts, in November. At the time, Disney denied speculation that it was shuttering its Orlando operations, saying it had not decided on future layoffs (HR 11/17). However, the Orlando Sentinel and the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday that approximately 260 Orlando staffers will learn their fate today. Disney had no comment Sunday. A Day With Wilbur Robinson will be executive produced by Clark Spencer, whose credits include Lilo & Stitch, and will be produced by Disney animation veteran Dorothy McKim. Steve Anderson, who served as head of story on The Emperor's New Groove and Brother Bear, will direct. Animation will begin in June with a targeted 2006 release date. Joyce has previously been associated with Disney on the Emmy-winning Disney Channel series Rolie Polie Olie.
