Goofs

The controller tells Nicole that "the altimeter will change position but try to keep the two lines even, even though they're not together anymore." This instrument is not the altimeter, but the Attitude Indicator or the Artificial Horizon. He is obviously referencing the Attitude Indicator since he had never told her where the altimeter was or what it looks like. See more »

Have we all run out of new ideas?

When a private jet is struck by lightening, the pilots and the couple of passengers are knocked out. All save Nicole , the teenage daughter of the jet's owner who is left in the plane with the auto pilot jammed on. With time running out a small group of air traffic controllers and her worried parents plan various options to get the passengers out of the jet before the auto pilot crashes it.

You know where this is going – it's a slight spin on the `stewardess flying plane' plot seen in several disaster movies. You could basically guess the ending now – before you even watch 60 seconds worth! The story manages to produce two (maybe three) bits that are good – but these are a little daft and require total dismissal of the laws of aerodynamics etc. At the end of the day, it's a tired story that's been wheeled out too many times.

The cast are weak. Elisha Cuthbert is a much better child-in-peril in TV's `24', here she's OK as she almost manages to be likeable. However she is a bit too cool when faced with death – and she's spoilt and very whiney! Powell as long haired controller Jeff is OK and manages to do a stereotype quite well – but Joe Mantegna….why is he slumming in this role? Does he need money so bad? Mantegna is the reason I watched this – why have you betrayed me Joe?

Overall this passes the time – just. If you ignore the cliches, the so-so acting and off-the-shelf plot then it is OK. Otherwise you're better avoiding this one.
