'America's Got Talent's' Howie Mandel: 'We try to be instructive, not just critical'

Viewers have come to know Howie Mandel as a judge on NBC's "America's Got Talent" or host of "Deal or No Deal." But he's also an actor and a stand-up, and all of this happened haphazardly.

He launched his career by taking the stage at Yuk Yuk's in Toronto, with "no intention of ever pursuing" comedy, acting or anything in entertainment, Mandel says. "In the mid-'70s, stand-up became the new disco, and people were being discovered on 'The Tonight Show' like Freddie Prinze, and Robin Williams was blasting off. Comedy clubs sprouted up all over."

Kathy Griffin Admits Her Struggle to "Get the Straights"

When you think of a weekly Kathy Griffin talk show a few things come to mind: Bawdy humor, shout outs to her gay fans, some wine (and her mother Maggie Griffin drinking it). But one thing you won't see much of on her new show, which premieres tonight on Bravo at 10/9c, is a lot of celebrity guests. "Why would I?" Griffin said on a press call earlier this week to talk about Kathy. "How could I possibly say the things to celebrities that America wants to say? And when I say America, I mean also Canada and maybe a few Secret Service Agents in Cartagena." Of course, that only means that Griffin will do what she does best - talk about celebrities.
