Roger Ailes and Gretchen Carlson aren't done fighting in the courts over whether the former Fox News Channel boss sexually harassed the ex-Fox & Friends co-host but they've agreed where to battle it out – and that shift could signal a potential settlement coalescing in the matter. Today lawyers for Ailes stepped back from the former The Mike Douglas Show producer's motion of July 15 to move the legal action from federal court in New Jersey to New York State. "Subject to… »

Carlson is suing her former boss for sexual harassment, and her attorneys are conducting confident conversations with other women who have been harassed by Ailes. The Guardian reported that new accusations go all the way back to the 1960s, when Ailes was a producer on “The Mike Douglas Show.” Carlson spokesperson John Garger told the outlet that “messages are still coming in” and the new accusations are “severe.” Also Read: The First Thing That Roger Ailes' Successor at Fox News. »

Roger Ailes: Republican Convention Buzzes About Fox News Chief’s Fall

20 July 2016 11:50 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Cleveland — News of the imminent departure of Roger Ailes from Fox News was almost as hot a topic as Donald Trump among the hundreds of journalists attending the Republican National Convention this week.

Many noted the irony of the timing, coming in the midst of the Gop gathering in the city where the one-time media advisor to Republican presidents got his start as a producer on “The Mike Douglas Show.” Ailes grew up in Warren, Ohio, a mid-sized city about 60 miles east of Cleveland.

Current and former Fox News employees expressed a mix of sadness, surprise and dismay at Ailes’ swift fall from his perch as chairman-ceo of the hugely profitable 21st Century Fox division that he built from scratch over the past 20 years.

Ailes’ position is said to have became untenable after he was sued for sexual harassment by former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson earlier this month. That led to other women coming forward with »

Gretchen Carlson Rebuts Roger Ailes’ Defenders: ‘They’re Still Being Paid by Fox’

12 July 2016 6:42 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, in an interview published Tuesday, offered a rebuttal to her former colleagues who have publicly defended Roger Ailes, the network chief she claims repeatedly sexually harassed her over several years: “They’re still being paid by Fox.”

Carlson made the statement to the New York Times as part of an interview that was her first with a major media outlet since she filed a lawsuit July 6 alleging sexual harassment from Ailes. Since then, Greta Van Susteren, Sean Hannity, Neil Cavuto, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Maria Bartiromo, Geraldo Rivera, Bret Baier and other current and former Fox News staffers have come to Ailes’ defense publicly.

In the interview, Carlson claims that she first complained to Ailes of being harassed at Fox News in 2009, after an incident in which her “Fox and Friends” morning-show co-host Steve Doocy allegedly pulled her arm down while they were on air in an attempt to “quiet” her. She »

More Women Accuse Fox News Chief Roger Ailes of Sexual Harassment

9 July 2016 8:53 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The accounts of six women claiming they had faced sexual harassment at the hands of Fox News Channel chief Roger Ailes surfaced Saturday, raising scrutiny of one of the most influential figures in TV news and further pressing the case of former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, who earlier this week filed a lawsuit against the prominent 21st Century Fox executive alleging similar charges.

In a report posted by New York magazine, the women offered details and suggested Ailes expected sexual favors in exchange for employment during his tenure as a producer on TV’s “The Mike Douglas Show” and in other positions he hel before he became chairman and chief executive of Fox News. The women told the magazine that he also expected favors for his friends and colleagues.

In a prepared statement, an attorney for Ailes said the allegations made in the New York article were untrue: “It has become obvious that Ms. Carlson »

Watch a Video Essay on Barbara Loden’s ‘Wanda’ and Director’s Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono

11 April 2016 12:29 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

I don’t agree with their claim that Barbara Loden‘s Wanda “incontestably ranks among the cinema’s greatest masterpieces” — for one thing: I don’t know if a work of art could truly, “incontestably” be anything, least of all in any qualitative sense — but Cristina Álvarez López and Adrian Martin‘s video essay on the matter is as illuminating as any I’ve seen of late. The actress’ only directorial effort has been “growing in stature” since premiering more than 45 years ago, and especially in recent years — a time when its bare-bones DVD and increasingly frequent rep showings prove capable of practically shocking viewers out of their seats, its spare crime narrative and introverted character study seemingly dropped from out of nowhere.

The duo now offer their informed and informative take on Loden’s “sullen, implosive energy,” explored in this assemblage of clips and context-heavy voiceover from Martin. My »
