Storyline

Rufus Lindner finally made it - his first movie is in production. The story is quite simple: The Pope's underground agents have always deleted VIPs that were in the Vatican's way. Now, Kai Rabe is about to reveal all the crimes. He has to deal with sinister monks and secret agents. But one day, the leading actress is murdered. Rufus, the first-time director, has to deal with many problems now: His ever-drunk teen-idol Kai Rabe rents two Israelian bodyguards who shoot just a little too quickly, his reckless producer wants the show to go on, even after the second murder took place, his set is disturbed by an investigating policeman who falls in love with a beautiful actress who happens to be the playwright's sister. November will be black!!!
2 March 2001 | by (Germany) – See all my reviews

Oh God, I love this movie! Although it got a lot of bad reviews I watched this film - and believe me, I wasn´t disappointed in any way!!! "Kai Rabe..." is a brilliant crossover between trash movie and parody on the motion-picture industry. The style is somewhere between Robert Altman´s "Pret-a-porter", Blake Edward´s "S.O.B" or some Tarantino-movies. Too many people made the mistake to equate it with Thomas Jahn´s previous film, the brilliant "Knockin on Heaven´s Door", which is more a drama or a road movie and can´t be compared to a satirical comedy like this one. Watch "Kai Rabe vs. the Vatican killers" as an independent movie and you will love it! The cast is great: there are a lot of fabulous German actors and comedy stars in, and you´ll even find many cameo appearances of celebrities from the show business. And with Brion James they´ve casted an international actor for a little supporting role. The Mexican rock´n rollers "Tito & Tarantula" composed the soundtrack for a film, which is full of allusions and insider gags. Some of them are pretty macabre, other ones are pure slapstick. But believe me, this film is sooooooo entertaining, you won´t bore a second!!! It is definite, that "Kai Rabe gegen die Vatikankiller" is one of the best German films of the 90s! It is even one of a few movies, next to "Lola rennt", which deserve the predicate "Kult made in Germany"!!! (9/10)
