‘Yoga Hosers’ Exclusive Clip: Kevin Smith’s Latest Horror-Comedy Will Have a One-Night Only Film Event Nationwide

28 July 2016 7:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Kevin Smith has made a name for himself with his edgy films, which feature his own unique ear for dialogue and off-the-wall premises. Recently, he has written and directed a trilogy of horror-comedies dubbed the “True North trilogy”; the first film in the series was “Tusk,” about a missing podcaster who gets turned into a walrus, which received mixed reviews. The next film “Yoga Hosers” premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released into theaters on September 2nd. But before the official release, Fathom Events and SpectiCast will host a one-night only film event in select theaters on August 30th. The event will also feature behind-the-scenes footage from the set, interviews with cast and crew, as well as a post-screening Q&A with writer and director Kevin Smith and members of the cast, captured at the premiere in Red Bank, New Jersey.

James McAvoy Plays Multiple Personalities in the Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's 'Split'

27 July 2016 4:00 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

What perfect timing that we get a trailer for a new M. Night Shyamalan movie the week of the DNC. Philadelphia's own has another creepy story to tell, again set in the City of Brotherly Love. And once again, we hope it's a return to form for the guy who gave us The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. This one is titled Split and stars James McAvoy as a man with dissociative identity disorder. All 23 of his personalities are united in kidnapping three teenage girls and hiding them away in a basement.  The plot may sound like an accidental rehash of 10 Cloverfield Lane, especially when McAvoy's character, through one of the identities, explains that there's a beast coming for the young women. But he could be referring to another, more...

Are we on the cusp of an M. Night Shyamalan renaissance?

27 July 2016 11:43 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

M. Night Shyamalan's career hit "next Spielberg"-level heat when his 1999 supernatural horror-drama The Sixth Sense won over critics and made nearly $300 million in North America on the strength of its third-act twist. While none of his subsequent films quite lived up to this initial promise -- though Unbreakable and Signs both have their share of ardent defenders -- they continued minting money for the studios until the release of 2006's Lady in the Water, a critically-reviled misfire that ranked as the first bona fide post-Sixth Sense flop of the young director's career. Since then it's been a tough road that reached its arguable nadir with 2013's After Earth, a would-be Will Smith blockbuster that all but destroyed Shyamalan's chances of ever helming a big-budget movie again. And yet remarkably, Shyamalan seems to be on the comeback trail thanks to a considerable scaling-down of his ambitions; smartly sensing an »

There's a Ton of James McAvoy in First Trailer for Split

27 July 2016 9:55 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

The first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's Split has arrived this morning, showcasing the many different personalities of James McAvoy's character, and his struggle to keep them from unleashing a more dangerous version of himself.  Come inside to check it out!

I know these days, when people hear about a new M. Night Shyamalan movie, it's met with a hefty dose of derision.  The director has brought it on himself I admit, but that's never stopped me from being interested in the ideas he's presented.  The man seemed to get back on his game a little bit with last year's, The Visit, and the first trailer for his next film Split, has me very intrigued:

There's a slow build to this trailer that really appeals to me.  Things seem typical at first, but then quickly go in the opposite direction, and James McAvoy looks to be bringing a »

12 expensive and eccentric modern Hollywood movies

Ryan Lambie Jul 26, 2016

They cost millions and they’re very, very odd. We take a look at 12 expensive and eccentric Hollywood films from the past 40 years...

The risk-averse nature of filmmaking means that the world’s more maverick and outrageous writers and directors have to make do with relatively low budgets. Nicolas Winding Refn drenched the screen in all kinds of sordid, violent and startling imagery in such films as Only God Forgives and this year’s The Neon Demon, but the combined budget of those probably didn’t even match the catering budget for something like Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Every so often, though, a truly bonkers film slips through the Hollywood studio system - often by accident. From horror sequels to original sci-fi adventures, here are 12 incredibly expensive and gloriously eccentric Hollywood movies from the past 40 years.

Bella Thorne Set To Headline Ya Adaptation Break My Heart 1,000 Times

Bella Thorne’s meteoric rise to the Hollywood big leagues continues today, now that the singer-cum-actress has agreed to terms to headline Break My Heart 1,000 Times, a big-screen adaptation of Daniel Waters’ eponymous novel.

It’ll herald a reunion with Midnight Sun director Scott Speer, who is on board to helm the feature film via Jason Fuchs’ screenplay – best known for Wonder Woman and DC’s long-gestating Lobo movie.

The elevator pitch for Waters’ Ya book champions a mixture of the melodramatic tenets found in The Fault in Our Stars with The Sixth SenseM. Night Shyamalan’s supernatural cult classic. No word yet on who Thorne is playing in Break My Heart 1,000 Times, but we understand the story “is set after a cataclysmic event has torn the barrier between our world and the next, leaving Remnants — ghostlike essences of the deceased — part of everyday life. 'Lights Out' is shaping up to be the horror sleeper of the summer

When the trailer for David F. Sandberg’s Lights Out played in front of a recent general-audience screening for The Conjuring 2 that I attended, I started to feel for the first time that Sandberg might really be onto something with the film, a low-budget horror flick with an ingeniously simple premise: a vicious spirit that can only be seen (and, presumably, hurt you) in the dark. To borrow a phrase from Hitchcock: the trailer played the crowd like a piano. Lights Out is based on Sandberg’s short film of the same name, which went viral after hitting YouTube back in 2014. The three-minute clip ultimately caught the attention of Hollywood horror maestro James Wan, who came on board to produce a feature-length version of the short and even recruited some of his key creative partners (including Furious 7 cinematographer Marc Spicer) to the cause. "This guy has what it takes, »
