Sex & Nudity

10/10

A man and a woman kiss passionately and sensuously for several minutes.

A woman removes her towel; in dim lighting, her breasts and blurred pubic region are visible.

Two women kiss; one opens the other's top and reveals her breasts. The woman is shown feeling the other woman's breast. They French kiss and fondle each other while breathing and moaning.

Two bare-breasted women kiss and caress each other briefly.

We see a woman's hand moving in her panties while she masturbates. She also wears a very thin white tank top; her nipples are translucently visible.

Two women kiss. We see the form of a nude woman behind a glass shower door.

A woman wears a tight T-shirt (her erect nipples are outlined).

A woman faints and we can see up her skirt.

A man pulls a woman very close to him and they act out a scene for a film audition; the woman acts seductively, they kiss and he is presumably aroused (he's breathing heavily) and touches her hip and buttock.

A man smacks a woman on the buttock.

Violence & Gore

6/10

There is a car accident, a body is shown. Two men fight and one has blood streaming down from his nose. A person is shown to be bleeding from the head, after a car accident.

A hitman shoots a person in the head. His hair is seen stiffened from the force of the bullet, and blood is shown on the wall. As the hitman tries to make it look like a suicide, he fails and ends up shooting someone else in the hip. He fights with this person, but then shoots them in the back twice -- no blood shown. He then shoots a witness (no blood shown). He then kills a Kirby upright vacuum.

A dead person is shown, her face disfigured by decomposition.

A person commits suicide -- no blood is shown. Smoke then fills the room.

Profanity

4/10

2 uses of "fuck".

Other mild profanity, nothing too intense.

4/10

Alcohol/Smoking.

8/10

The film in general has a Hitchcock-ian sense of suspense, although more surreal. It makes things that are not ordinarily scary seem terrifying. Other than the dark tone and sustained suspense, there is one jump scare in the beginning and one shocking death in the end.

A dead woman's body is partially decomposed on the bed. We see a semi close-up of her decomposing face which is frightening to see.

The whole film is like a dream, presented in a theme such as neo-noir. It shows the dark side of Hollywood. While horror may not be the film's genre, it does play into a factor that leaves a haunting effect on the audience. We see 2 cars filled with young people driving recklessly side by side in the same direction of both lanes of the winding Mulholland Dr. canyon. In a fraction of a second we see a terrible car accident as one of the cars filled with young people has a head-on accident with a vehicle that is stopped in one of the lanes of Mulholland Dr. A male body is seen laying next to a car bleeding yet dimly lit.
