The plot develops in two different paths depending on the side you take. If you choose GDI you get to play field commander Michael McNeil and try to rid the world of Kane and his Brotherhood of NOD. Fighting around the world (That means: North America and Europe), gaining the help of the Forgotten and enlisting them in the massive battle. And in the end the good guys win and the Kodiak flies to from the night side to the day side of Earth. If you choose NOD you get to play Anton Slavik and try to take over the Brotherhood of NOD and make the day that 'The Technology of Peace Will Flow Throughout the Land' come. Then the presumed dead Kane returns and you play under him taking the fight to the GDI's territory for world domin...I mean peace. And in the end the bad guys win and the Montauk can't fly from the night side to the day side of the Earth because the Earth is glowing green.
In the exapansion of the game Firestorm, it takes off from the ending of Tiberian Sun. The serum Tratos created for Umagon did not work, and made her evolve into another mutant. Tratos had a GDI team retrieve the Tacitus, an item that once was a key to Kane's ultimate power. However, an Ion Storm made the Kodiak crashland in East Africa. After some incidents, you have to retrieve a CABAL unit, NOD's AI. The bad news though, CABAL had some "free will" to betray you. As a commander for GDI, you have to terminate CABAL while protecting innocent people. For NOD, you are a new commander who follows General Anton Slavik. The Brotherhood of NOD was at dissaray. He had you retrieve CABAL. However, CABAL gave you too many assignments which considered to be "dangerous" to NOD. While attempting to pull the plug, CABAL took control of all Cyborg units to kill the Inner Circle commanders. After fleeing to the Montauk, Slavik needs you to retrieve an EVA unit so that you can efficiently attack CABAL. No matter which side you're on, you have to team up with the opposite side just to survive. It is up to you to decide their fates.
