First ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ Trailer Is Strictly For The Kids

22 September 2010 9:15 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet has been, shall we say, previously refurbished for the big screen by the likes of Baz Luhrmann and was even the basis for the eloquently-titled Jet Li action film, Romeo Must Die.  Now we have yet another cinematic rendition of the classic play – the CGI animated Gnomeo and Juliet.

Touchstone Pictures has released the first official trailer for Gnomeo and Juliet, which re-envisions the dueling houses of Capulet and Montague as garden gnomes with red hats and blue hats, respectively.  One of the ceramic figures dressed in blue, the bearded Gnomeo (voice of James McAvoy), falls in love with a lady (Emily Blunt) who wears a red cap.  Needless to say, utter chaos ensues.

This comical cartoon was directed by Kelly Asbury of Shrek 2 fame…

The Legends of Expendables Body Count: Just How Many People Have They Killed?

12 August 2010 4:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

With the biggest, greatest, most over the top action film of all time coming out on 19th August in the form of The Expendables (our review here), HeyUGuys is bringing you the ultimate run down of the kill count that these historic action actors have each tallied up.

From throat rips to decapitations, martial art assassins to robotic killers and Yippee Ki-Yay’s to Asta La Vista’s, they have dealt death in every way possible with every weapon imaginable.

Each death reaches the same conclusion but each actor carries it off in their own unique style, often adding a personal touch. Be it an Arnie verbal send off like “Stick Around” after being stuck with a huge knife against a post or adding some humour by playing games with the baddies like John McClane in Die Hard ” Now I have a machine gun, Ho Ho Ho”. If you're not well-versed in that scene, don't worry — we have you covered. Throughout the week, we're profiling the six heroes at the center of "The Expendables," continuing today with martial arts extraordinaire Jet Li.

Jet Li

A successful Chinese martial artist, actor and producer, Jet Li crossed over into familiar Hollywood territory in the late 1990s with a villainous turn in "Lethal Weapon 4," where he was able to bring the pain down on Danny Glover and the currently embattled Mel Gibson in equal measure. He's since starred in a wide variety of American martial arts films including "Romeo Must Die," "The One" and "Unleashed." Li stars in "The Expendables" as Yin Yang, »

Two More For Scream 4

21 June 2010 12:14 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Whenever a new cast member is announced for Wes Craven's new Scream sequel, we kind of assume they're due a knife in the ribs from Ghostface. If that's the case then the bodycount's going to be sizeable, since Anthony Anderson and Marielle Jaffe are now reportedly joining Scream 4's Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David ArquetteEmma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Lake Bell and Nico Tortorella. It's a high-profile gig for the early-career Jaffe, who so-far only has a role as one of the eight 'Aphrodite Girls' in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief under her belt. She'll also shortly be seen in Doug Campbell's kidnap-drama Locked Away.Anderson is a more familiar face, from Transformers, The Departed, and Andrzej Bartkowiak's action 'trilogy' (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave). Most intriguingly (and amusingly) though, he's also a veteran of the Scream-ripping Scary Movie franchise, »

Sam Raimi to Direct Wizard of Oz Prequel?

15 June 2010 3:27 AM, PDT | movies.about.com | See recent About.com Hollywood Movies news »

Everyone's getting in on the Oz act. Glee's Lea Michele just signed up to voice Dorothy in an animated Oz project, and now Variety reports Sam Raimi's been offered the chance to direct Oz, the Great and Powerful, a prequel to the classic film The Wizard of Oz, by Disney.

Oz, the Great and Powerful traces the journey of the Wizard and how he went from living in Omaha and being a part of a traveling circus, to being the man behind the curtain in Oz. Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Nine Yards, Romeo Must Die) wrote the screenplay.

Raimi's just the latest in a long line of big-name directors to be associated with Oz, the Great and Powerful. Adam Shankman (Hairspray), Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) were all at one point or another mentioned as being in the running to direct the project.

Sam Raimi to Direct Wizard of Oz Prequel?

14 June 2010 6:37 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Ever since Sam Raimi parted ways with the Spider-Man franchise, everyone has been anxiously waiting to see what he might choose for his next project. World of Warcraft is the only major movie that he is officially attached to direct, but there have been plenty of rumoured possibilities including a new version of The Shadow. This week, however, a new option has emerged, and it is one of the many competing projects based on The Wizard of Oz aiming to start production sometime this year. According to Vulture [1], an offer is currently out to Sam Raimi to direct a movie called Oz, the Great and Powerful for Disney. This is not the movie based on Todd McFarlane's Twisted Land of Oz toy line, and it's not the one written by Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After). This is a prequel of sorts that has apparently been penned by Mitchell Kapner (The Whole Nine Yards, »

After this week's announcement that the next James Bond movie has been completely stalled due to the sale of MGM's assets, the movie's director, Sam Mendes, now finds himself free and available for new work. According to Production Weekly, Mendes might have that new job soon.

The project was one formerly known as Brick, and as written by Romeo Must Die screenwriter Mitchell Kapner, it would tell the story of how the man who became the Wizard of Oz came to that world and became the man behind the curtain in the emerald city.

Furthermore, Production Weekly reports that Robert Downey Jr. is "circling" the part of the Wizard. Needless to say, with the interest of two heavy-hitters like Mendes and Downey, »
