Storyline

A flying bumble bee introduces the orchestral piece "Flight of the Bumble Bee". An unnamed orchestra plays the piece on a darkened set, the literal spotlight shone only on the musician or musicians featured during different passages of the piece. The bumble bee then flies off to Mexico, where a young man, with the assistance of a pipe playing boy, serenades a bouquet gathering señorita, who coyly plays hard to get. But she truly wants her serenader to get her, as she wistfully sings a love song in private to the tune of "Tales from the Vienna Woods". He may only know her true feelings if he catches her singing her song. Written by Huggo

Part of a 3 disc collection
28 December 2015 | by (london) – See all my reviews

This short is one of 36 featured on the 3 disc set entitled "Classic shorts from the dream factory volume ".This contains shorts made by MGM.They are either comedy or musical.Generally speaking I feel that they compare unfavourable with the set issued comprising of Warner shorts. The best shorts in this collection are those in 3 strip Technicolor. There is one Oscar winning short which I found rather dull.It just seems to me that MGM did not put too much effort into these bearing in mind that they were generally included with the features at no additional cost to the exhibitor.Still it won't stop me buying more of this type of disc.
