Three arrive as 'House' guests

29 December 2006 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

A trio of actors have signed on to guest star on Disney Channel's upcoming series Cory in the House, a spinoff of the network's hit comedy That's So Raven.

George Takei, known for his role as Sulu on the original Star Trek, Don Stark, who played Bob Pinciotti on Fox's That '70s Show, and Lupe Ontiveros, who played Carlos Solis' mother on ABC's Desperate Housewives, are appearing on the series, which premieres at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 12.

Cory, which marks Disney Channel's first-ever series spinoff, features Raven's Kyle Massey and Rondell Sheridan reprising their roles as son and father Cory and Victor Baxter. The show finds the pair moving to the White House after Victor is hired as the personal chef to the newly elected president (John D'Aquino), now that Raven has gone off to college and mom Tanya has moved to the U.K. to finish law school.

Takei and Stark are appearing in the same episode, with Takei playing Ronald, the snooty head steward on Air Force One, and Stark playing Russian Prime Minister Schuzoff. »

Real estate mogul Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump is dating That '70s Show star Topher Grace, according to media reports in the US. Ivanka was celebrating her 25th birthday in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday and the pair were seen getting cozy. Grace, who starred as Eric Forman on the hit TV series and plays the villainous Venom in the upcoming Spider-Man 3, was spotted with Trump several times during the weekend. According to American publication People, the pair danced, cuddled on the VIP bed and even shared a quick kiss during the party and then left holding hands. Before the birthday bash, Trump, Grace and friends including Grace's That '70s Show co-star Wilmer Valderrama had dinner at Las Vegas restaurant Social House and on Friday they dined with friends at Bellagio's Fix. Trump, vice president of development and acquisitions for her father's Trump Organization, is a regular on his US reality show The Apprentice. The case of Kutcher vs. Kutcher

30 September 2006 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Can the live-action Ashton Kutcher beat the animated Ashton Kutcher? That will be the test this weekend as the rising star is featured in what likely will be the top two films at the domestic boxoffice. It might be a close contest between Buena Vista Pictures' The Guardian and Columbia Pictures' Open Season, the first feature from Sony Pictures Animation. But whatever the outcome, there's sure to be a big payday for the former star of Fox's That '70s Show. Buena Vista's Guardian, an inspirational story starring Kevin Costner and Kutcher, opens in 3,833 theaters. The PG-13 film from Touchstone Pictures, centers on a renowned Rescue Swimmer (Costner) who trains a cocky young Coast Guard recruit (Kutcher). Directed by Andrew Davis (The Fugitive, Collateral Damage), the film could prove to be a commercial comeback for Costner as he transitions into roles befitting an older movie star. It comes on the heels of last year's The Upside of Anger, in which the actor earned strong reviews for taking on a male lead that was also a bit of a scruffy, character role. »

Culkin and Kunis Escape From Israel

19 July 2006 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin and his girlfriend, That 70s Show actress Mila Kunis, narrowly escaped from Israel after their vacation was ruined by rocket fire from Lebanon. The couple were enjoying a relaxing holiday when rocket fire hit the Israeli town of Haifa, where the couple was staying. Culkin insisted the pair immediately leave the country, but Kunis was reluctant to end her holiday early, telling the Jerusalem Post, "He's a drama queen." The couple eventually decided to return to the US and Culkin told a flight attendant on their plane that wasn't the only problem the couple encountered on the trip. He said, "We went to the beach, and there were tons of jellyfish - so we figured that even the sea was dangerous." »

'Will' finale juices up NBC as peacock tops CBS' 'CSI'

21 May 2006 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

NEW YORK -- Two comedies that suffered ratings declines in recent seasons -- NBC's Will & Grace and Fox's That '70s Show -- flexed some Nielsen muscle one last time in their hourlong series finales last week. Will & Grace, starring Eric McCormack and Debra Messing, closed its eight-season run on top with 18.4 million viewers and an 8.4 rating/21 share in the adults 18-49 demographic in the 9 p.m. hour Thursday, according to Nielsen Media Research. Those were the highest marks for the show in more than two years, and it helped drive ER (16.6 million, 7.1/19) to its best numbers of the season. The Will & Grace finale also was the first program to beat, albeit by a hair, an original episode of CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (25.4 million, 8.3/20) in adults 18-49 in two years, since the series finale of another long-running NBC comedy, Frasier, in May 2004. »

NBC scores with 'Grace'-ful goodbye Thursday

19 May 2006 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

NEW YORK -- NBC's farewell to Will & Grace came up big for the network, coming in close to CBS's CSI finale in the demo and along with the ER finale giving the Peacock a now-rare Thursday win. Will & Grace averaged 18.1 million viewers and an 8.1 rating/20 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary ratings estimates from Nielsen Media Research. That was almost the equal in the demo of CSI (25.1 million, 8.2/20), not only the night's traditional winner but also regularly the top-scripted show on TV. NBC devoted two hours to the finale, including a one-hour retrospective of the show's eight season between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. The retrospective (12.6 million, 5.1/16) won the time period in the demo, although CBS's CSI repeat (13.9 million, 3.7/11) beat it in viewership. Also putting in a strong showing at 8 p.m. was Fox's That '70s Show, which averaged 9.2 million viewers and a 4.3/13 in the demo. But ABC's American Inventor couldn't create anything more than a fourth place finish, with 5.1 million viewers and a 1.7/5 in the demo for its first hour. (Its second hour rose only slightly, averaging 6.6 million viewers and a 2.4/6). »

2006 Series Finales: Unseen Family Connections

11 May 2006 2:51 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Several long-running shows are saying "so long" this month. Series like Malcolm in the Middle, That '70s Show and The West Wing have each given us many hours of enjoyment. The characters are like family. Well, in some households that's more true than in others.

Both Malcom in the Middle and The West Wing finales will be going head to head this Sunday, May 14, 2006. Malcolm and Wing will both wrap up their seventh seasons. Some viewers will have a hard time deciding which of the two to watch. Particularly difficult for the home of real life couple Jane Kaczmarek (mother Lois on Malcolm) and Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman on West Wing). Thank goodness for TiVo. I wonder what the mood will be like in their house the next day?

That 70's Show (it's final original episode airs on Thursday, May 18, 2006) also has a family connection to Malcolm. Actor brothers Chris »

22 January 2006 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hit US TV show The West Wing will be axed when its seventh season draws to a close in May. The final episode will be broadcast in the US on May 14, preceded by a one-hour retrospective. The decision to pull the show was made before the death of actor John Spencer, who played chief of staff Leo McGarry, on 16 December last year. Edgy 'Karla' gets Canadian release dates

10 January 2006 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

TORONTO -- Quebec film distributor Christal Films on Tuesday said it has picked up the controversial U.S. teen killer film Karla for a Canada-wide release on Jan. 20. Christian Larouche, president of Montreal-based Christal, said he plans to release about 100 prints of Karla, a drama from Los Angeles-based Quantum Entertainment that stars Laura Prepon (That '70s Show) and Misha Collins as convicted schoolgirl killers Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo. The duo terrorized a southern Ontario community during the early 1990s. The Montreal World Film Festival last August decided against giving Karla a world premiere as its opening night film after facing widespread opposition from festival sponsors. A spokeswoman for Cineplex Galaxy Cinemas, the Canadian exhibition giant, said Karla will screen on about 15 of its screens in major markets, including Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and Halifax. "We feel that our role as a film exhibitor is to make films available to the community and to let people decide if they want to see a film or not," she said. »
