Aggressive and mean-spirited kung fu film
Leofwine_draca14 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
THE BOXER'S LAST STAND is an aggressive and mean-spirited kung fu film shot on a low budget. It's the typical story of vengeance in which an old-timer gets a message that an enemy he had dealings with a decade before has just been released from prison and is now on his way, gunning for revenge. Before you know it the father lies dead and his three sons swear that they'll get the man responsible.

There's really nothing here that hasn't been done already a million times, and about the only thing that stands out about THE BOXER'S LAST STAND is its violence edge. The fights are noticeably bloodier than usual and there's a lengthy rape sequence which seems to go on forever in which an innocent, naked young woman is gang-raped. It's pretty unpalatable, although not particularly disturbing; the film is too cheap-looking for that. Sadly, the scuzzy print quality and average choreography negate the viewer's interest.

Don't bother

Warning: Spoilers
This incoherent and rather nasty martial arts film dispenses with plot in favor of virtually non stop action. In some cases that would be a good thing, but in the case of The Boxer's Last Stand, the fight choreography is incredibly badly staged and embarrassing to watch. As the film begins, 'Dad' is about to celebrate his 60th birthday with his beloved family. The house is decorated and the festivities are about to commence, but the phone rings, bringing with it an unwanted call from Dad's old buddy, a mean and moody criminal of some sort who wants revenge. Before you know it, Dad has gone to meet his old comrade, and not long after goes to meet his maker. It's up to Dad's Three Sons to avenge their father, which they do in predictable fashion. There's an unpleasant and over-extended rape scene, bad pan and scanning, atrocious dubbing (though thankfully no comic relief), and those really unconvincing fight scenes I alluded to earlier. Bottom of the barrel stuff.

how to make revenge boring
ckormos112 August 2015
It takes 15 minutes of movie time just to get to the first fight and the wait is not worth it. I cannot find a fight director or fight choreographer listed in the credits and that explains everything. The story is boring and the dubbing soporific. "We should stop, he's already dead" says Captain Obvious. I often stick with bad films like this just to see if there is a moment that was worth it. There was no such moment. I did learn something though. If you are watching an Ocean Shores VHS and the color is good and the picture reasonably free of scratches there is a good reason. The original probably played only once at the theater and was immediately shelved because the audience walked out. This is one of those movies.
