Trivia

Elijah Wood was supposed to star opposite Melissa Joan Hart but looked too young
Faye Grant and Stephen Collins, who play Nicole's parents, are married in real life.
The Donnas were formerly called The Electrocutes.
Originally titled Next to You, was renamed after the Britney Spears song, "(You Drive Me) Crazy (The Stop Remix!)", was added to the soundtrack. To help promote the movie, Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier both appeared in the music video for the song.
Based on the book 'How I Created My Perfect Prom Date' by Todd Strasser.
The Centennial scene was filmed in the rotunda of the Utah State Capitol, and local high schools actually have proms there.
Just before the question at the drive-in about having sex with Agent Scully from The X-Files (1993), when the establishing shot of the drive-in comes on the screen a light can be seen in the top right darting about in the sky like a UFO.
Ogden High School was also the school used in Three O'Clock High (1987).
The scene where they are eating at an outside table at a drive-in restaurant was filmed at Kirt's in Ogden, Utah. Kirt's is a popular hang out for the local high school students. Kirt's changed its sign for the movie.
One of the many references to old teen movies is when Nicole suggests that she and Chase cruise down the strip, just like all the kids did in American Graffiti (1973). A yellow deuce coupe like the one driven in the movie can be seen behind them when the stoplight turns green.
The school scenes were filmed at Ogden High School in Ogden, Utah. Their mascot is actually the tiger and the colors are orange and black.
When Nicole and Chase sit down at the drive in dinner a voice over the intercom says references the Beatle's song Revolution 9 from the White Album saying, "Order's ready for Number 9. Number 9. Number 9..."
The "main street" of the show is Ogden, Utah's historic 25th street. The Union building shown in the background of that scene is a historic train depot. It houses museums today.
