Ewan McGregor has reached out to end his long rift with director Danny Boyle - nearly a decade after the Oscar winner dropped him from a movie.
The pair formed a close friendship after collaborating on 1996 movie Trainspotting, and Boyle promised McGregor the lead role in 2000 blockbuster The Beach. But studio bosses pressured him to cast a more famous name and the role went to Leonardo DiCaprio instead.
Speaking back in 2005, McGregor accused Boyle of "betraying" him, telling Playboy magazine, "Boyle and his people didn't treat me very well.
"It wasn't just about The Beach - it was that they were dishonest with me about it. It cost us our friendship. I had the rug pulled out from under our feet... It was a betrayal."
Four years on, the Scottish star is ready to reach out following Boyle's success at the 2009 Academy Awards with Slumdog Millionaire.
He tells Moviefone.com, "I haven't spoken to Danny for years, I'm afraid. But I thought (Slumdog's Oscar success) was very well deserved; I liked Slumdog very much. I thought it was an excellent film, and it was nice to see him getting all those accolades. It was great."

This week:
Tom Hanks is the box office champion; Terry Gilliam kills Don Quixote…again; Spider-Man has a new Green Goblin (on stage); the Basterds are online; Toy Story 3 is moving Up; Ewan McGregor won’t be Trainspotting and who are the Six Suspects?
Box Office
Tom Hanks charged to the top of the box office with Angels and Demons. The sequel to The DaVinci Code grossed $48 million over the weekend, which is down from the $77 million opening for the first film. Having said that, reviews are better and the audience is more mature so it might have legs to make it profitable. Expect a third movie - but might they replace Hanks with someone younger and cheaper next time?
Star Trek showed great legs with a second weekend take of $42 million and a drop of less than 45% from its opening weekend. With a total gross of $147 million it

While the number of gay/bisexual characters on scripted television has, at best, held steady over the past decade (and doesn’t exactly represent the diversity of gay men in the real world), it’s a different story when it comes to the depiction of gay men on reality television. Indeed, along with the explosion of reality programming has come a dramatic increase in the numbers and types of gay and bisexual men appearing on our television screens.
From the groundbreaking appearance of Pedro Zamora on The Real World: San Francisco to the current seasons of The Amazing Race, Survivor: Tocantins, and Make Me a Supermodel, there is a breadth of gay men that is quite frankly astounding.
In fact, there have now been so many gay and bisexual men on reality television that we decided to let AfterElton.com readers choose their favorites of all time. Here

"Slumdog Millionaire" reviewby Peter Dimako, Editor I recall being asked a few times if I had a favorite film and I would always reply that it’s an impossible question to answer as there are a few greats through many generations. “Slumdog Millionaire” is, to this date, the motion picture that has touched me most. This is the greatest film I have ever had the privilege to view. When interviewing Danny Boyle for his other gem “Millions” back in the days when we were located in Atlanta, I was most impressed with how comfortable Mr. Boyle makes one feel and how interested he is in you as a person. He focuses on you and shows real interest, listening carefully to your answer as if you matter as much as he. Perhaps this was largely due to my South African upbringing and family history. In any case, he has a calmness

“Screenspiration”, that’s the new term being used to describe the phenomenon of folks visiting places due to seeing it in a film. Here at Boxwish, we’re trying it on for size and have to say we like the feel of it. Not that the notion is anything novel, we’ve been banging on about visiting places as seen onscreen for ages now. However the craze is sweeping the country as according to new research 34 per cent of Brits have been so inspired, with India voted the most popular destination thanks to Oscar-winner Slumdog Millionaire (learn more about the film’s Mumbai setting here). What other international hotspots made the list? Click over for details.
The survey was conducted by Opinium on behalf of TravelSupermarket.com and over 2,000 British adults answered. The results found that age plays a factor, with 50 per cent of those aged under 30 more likely to

March definitely came in like a lion this year at Dread Central. We put up more news during the past week than in any recent period I can recall. Which is proof positive that despite the economic problems around the globe, the outlook for film projects -- including those of the horror variety -- is rosy and robust.
In fact, according to the Calgary Herald, February 2009 generated more than $770 million at the box office (with Friday the 13th and Coraline contributing $59 million and $59.5, respectively), which in adjusted dollars makes it the most lucrative February on record — ever. Those who work in the industry can take some comfort in the fact that five of the last seven financial crunches fueled big Hollywood business. So what can we expect from genre filmmakers in the near future to help stoke that movie biz boom?
It was cool to see a big name like

The Sun is reporting Barbara Broccoli, the head of the 007 franchise at Eon Productions, is one of a series of major players said to have approached Danny Boyle in recent days.
The report goes on to say Boyle is also good friends with Bond producer Callum McDougal, with whom he filmed the 2000 film The Beach.
Unfortunately, as logical as it sounds considering Boyle’s stock is now on the rise following the recent Oscar success of Slumdog Millionaire, the Sun is a gossipy UK rag typically proven to be wrong.
The quote from the Sun reports a source saying, “[Boyle] has been offered the chance to direct the 23rd Bond film by Barbara. The Eon team love his vision and think that it would work perfectly for the new look of Bond.

According to The Sun, "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle has been approached to direct the next installment in the James Bond franchise. A source said: "Danny is the man of the moment and he is being bombarded with offers from studios. He has been offered the chance to direct the 23rd Bond film by [producer Barbara Broccoli]. The Eon team love his vision and think that it would work perfectly for the new look of Bond." The source continued: "Danny has always insisted he is more interested in the film than the money. However, with Daniel Craig's involvement and the way the films are now structured . with the emphasis on the characters and plot rather than gags and gadgets . it is right up Danny's street. Everyone on the Eon team thinks Danny would be a fantastic addition to the Bond family." Boyle recently won the Oscar for Best Director and has a

Hollywood starlet Keira Knightley is return to the UK to film her new movie Never Let Me Go, a cloning-themed flick for DNA Films and Fox Searchlight, the team that brought us Slumdog Millionaire.
The film is being written by The Beach writer Alex Garland and directed by One Hour Photo visionary helmer Mark Romanek. Not much else is known about the film, except for the fact that it will kick off shooting later in the year.
For now, here's a lovely image of Keira for your viewing pleasure.

Keira Knightley is trading her usual period fare for a more futuristic world as she is set to star in sci-fi thriller Never Let Me Go. The film will also star Andrew Garfield (Boy A, Lions for Lambs) and Carey Mulligan (Pride & Prejudice), and will be directed by Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo).
There’s not much in the way of details about the plot of the film as of yet, except for the overall idea that it will be a “cloning-themed film.” But it’s going to be in the very capable hands of screenwriter Alex Garland who wrote 28 Days Later, The Beach and Sunshine.
It will be produced on a collaborative basis by DNA Films, screenwriter Alex Garland and Film 4.
Not much to say about this one since not that much information has been released in these early days of the development stage (shooting has yet to start

I didn't pay much attention to the headlines about a new Keira Knightley movie today, because I assumed (as I'm sure you all did) that it would be yet another period romance of some sort. But then something else caught my eye: the movie is written by Alex Garland, the same man who penned Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later and Sunshine (okay, so he wrote The Beach and The Tesseract too). Reading further, I found that the movie is also directed by Mark Romanek, the prolific music video director who helmed the Robin Williams thriller One Hour Photo. Okay, now I'm interested. Never Let Me Go is the name of the film, and it once again finds Garland returning to the ...

Fox Searchlight is developing a new sci-fi cloning-themed thriller titled Never Let Me Go written by Alex Garland, the writer behind Danny Boyle's films The Beach, 28 Days Later, and Sunshine. Music video director Mark Romanek, of only One Hour Photo previously, will be directing. Also announced is that Keira Knightley will star alongside of Andrew Garfield and Sundance's rising star, Carey Mulligan. DNA Films is producing the film, which will shoot starting in April in England. There a lot of important names involved in this project, so even if you don't like Keira Knightley much, I'd suggest you still keep your eye on this. The story in Never Let Me Go revolves around a trio (Knightley, Garfield, and Mulligan) who grew up in a boarding school with no contact or knowledge of the outside world until they discover they are clones grown for the sole purpose of organ donation.

Overall, I think you'd have to rate the past two years as below average for Leonardo DiCaprio. It's still better and more lucrative than almost any other actor alive, but for him, it's not exactly the salad days. Don't get me wrong; I think the movies are mostly still of a very high quality, but his star power hasn't been unquestionable.
Though he received an Oscar nomination for Blood Diamond, the film was not as commercially viable as it should have been, even in spite the serious undertones. His documentary, The 11th Hour, was both poorly executed and received. Body of Lies was flat, and Revolutionary Road won't get him that elusive Oscar. Yeah, outside of The Departed, it's been four years since Leo has been in synch with his audience. And The Departed was definitely a group effort.
He's been working behind the scenes as a producer lately, and
