This DVD edition of _Beach, The (2000)_ by Fox offers pretty good quality, but not more.
The film master used is in good shape, clean and steady.
Color and contrast rendition are adequate. Sharpness could be better for a new anamorphic transfer. The noise and grain level is low.
There are no major video artifacts as well, but overenhanced edges pop up at times and fine texture detail is occasionally messed up a bit.
Compression is good; some artifacting is visible at times.
The sound recording level is way too low. Digital resolution is wasted for no reason.
The supplements contain deleted scenes taken from a low resolution composite master with built in compression artifacts. Image quality is very poor. In addition Fox has sprinkled their copyright all over the place as if someone were tempted to reuse such poor quality material elsewhere.
This DVD will look pretty good on any kind of equipment, but it's not reference quality material or close.
