This review is based off a volume that collects Punisher: Trial of the Punisher #1-2, Bullseye: Perfect Game #1-2 and material from Daredevil #500.
It’s not very often that I get to review a trade paperback that’s an anthology in the purest sense, so I find myself most fortunate that this one – Punisher & Bullseye: Deadliest Hits – focuses heavily on one of my favorite Marvel characters, Frank Castle.
Before delving into the content itself, I can’t help but voice my bewilderment as to why the co-headliners were even paired for this compilation. I mean, this isn’t a Punisher vs. Bullseye book by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, Daredevil is the connecting thread here, as he does appear in each story in some capacity. In fact, they could’ve easily put his name on this book, which may have even boosted sales.
But, there are various factors to consider,...

What makes a game a landmark achievement, or an important one? Gorgeous graphics? An immediately timeless character? A unique plot twist? Perfect game mechanics? Maybe all the above and more?
It’s easy to forget just how good things are in the industry overall, as it feels like the top-tier consoles are struggling to maintain exclusivity libraries, instead falling back on multiplayer-only shooters, half-baked HD upgrades and arbitrary third-party releases. The reality though, is gaming as an expressive artform is more accessible and expansive than ever. We may have lost the ‘mid-tier’ of development across the last generation (your THQs, Acclaims and the like) as budgets for triple-a titles number into the tens of thousands just to get them off the ground, but to judge the medium’s output by things like the latest Halo or Star Wars Battlefront remake, is to miss the point entirely.

Let's face it: Survivor doesn't always have a feel-good ending.
We've seen villains win the game and likable players get voted out right before the finals.
Not this season.
Jeremy Collins, a 37-year-old Massachusetts firefighter, played a game of quiet control. In additional to being a physical threat, he also understood the game's strategy. Oh, and he was also a likable dad with a pregnant wife at home.
And things have even gotten better for Collins: on Thursday afternoon, he and this season's heartthrob Joe Anglim taped a guest spot on The Young and the Restless. (They play coffeehouse patrons in scenes with Joshua Morrow,...

There are only 81 days before Opening Day gifts us all with another season of baseball, which means it’s prime time we start talking about baseball videogames. While PS3 gamers never had to worry, many 360 players were left fearful that without 2K Sports coming to terms with Major League Baseball, there wouldn’t be a season for them to enjoy.
In a surprise announcement today though, 2K sports confirmed that a consensus was found with Major League Baseball, and MLB2K13 will officially be hitting store shelves on March 5th, 2013. With the new title, 2K is once again reprising their Perfect Game Challenge, offering a million bucks to the first player to throw a perfect game on camera.
Jason Argent, the vice president of marketing for 2K Sports, was quoted earlier as saying “We’d like to thank our league partners for their support in helping us reach an agreement to bring back Mlb 2K,...

Quadrophenia (Criterion) Franc Roddam’s 1979 film based on The Who’s classic rock opera tells the story of working class lad Jimmy (Phil Daniels) struggling to find his identity in a rapidly changing Britain, circa 1965. Jimmy is a “mod,” a youth movement dedicated to wearing snappy suits, driving Vespa motor scooters bedecked with side mirrors, popping amphetamines and obsessed with the new sound of bands like The Who and The Kinks. “Perfect Game” is a Korean baseball film which tells the real life tale of the intense rivalry between the two ace pitchers – Choi Dong Won of the Lotte Giants and Sun Dong Ryul of the Haitai Tigers, who back in May 1987 were pitted against each other in an epic clash of the titans to decide who was top dog. The film was directed by Park Hee Kon, following up on his impressive crime drama debut “Insadong Scandal” with something a little different. In its two crucial lead roles the film has a pair of top actors in Cho Seung Woo (“The Sword with No Name”) and Yang Dong Geun (“Grand Prix”), with support from Son Byung Ho (“Papa”), Jo Jin Woong (“Nameless Gangster”) and television actress Choi Jung Won (“Stars Falling From the Sky”). The two players are very different characters, Cho Seung Woo’s Choi Dong Won being a disciplined and highly dedicated veteran,...

Mets fans had to wait 50 years for the first no hitter in franchise history, so we all demured out of pity and didn't make too much fuss about how Johan Santana actually gave up a double. So it makes some sad sense of balance now that fellow Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey tossed a real no-hitter last night against the Tampa Bay Rays, but isn't getting credit for it (at least not yet... more on that later).
In the books, R.A. Dickey threw a complete game, one-hitter last night.
But in the first inning last night, the Rays' speedy Justin Upton hit a two hopper to Mets third baseman David Wright. It was a routine play, even with Upton's speed. But Wright misjudged the play, thought he had to rush, and tried to bare hand the ball. He could have gloved it and gotten Upton with a strong throw.

Ready to feel inadequate? This year’s $1 million winner of the second annual Mlb 2K11 Perfect Game Challenge isn’t even that into baseball, but still took home the big prize.
“I had to do a lot of research,” 25-year-old winner Brian Kingrey of Hammond, La. told EW. “I had to look up batting averages of the players and everything. Luckily, the game is very consistent with the batting averages of real-life players.”

2K Sports announced today that 24-year-old Wade McGilberry of Semmes, Alabama has won $1,000,000 by being the first person to throw a verified perfect game in Major League Baseball 2K10. "It was actually my wife who convinced me to go for it," said Wade McGilberry, winner of 2K Sports' Perfect Game competition. "I never thought I'd actually win a million dollars playing a video game, it's all still sinking in for me." Wade threw a verified perfect game on the first day of the competition, a feat thought by many to be impossible. He went on to add, "The game itself was fantastic - I'm glad I bought it either way -- but I have to say, this...

With no significant new entries, holdover The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo led all limited releases for a third straight weekend. Oscar-winner The Secret in Their Eyes and documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop saw minimal second weekend declines, The Joneses and The Perfect Game plummeted, and Paper Man was paper thin in its debut. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ranked 16th on the overall weekend chart, grossing $621,749 on 181 theaters (up 29 from last weekend) for a 38-day total of $3.9 million. It was down 1.5 percent from last weekend, though, which was its first weekend-to-weekend decline, and its per site average of $3,345 was its lowest yet. The Secret in Their Eyes added 23 sites for a total of 33, and subsequently increased 115 percent over last weekend to $360,056. After two weekends, the Best Foreign Language Oscar winner from Argentina has grossed $592,864, and distributor Sony Pictures Classics will likely add more theaters in the coming weeks.

As I was preparing to interview Clifton Collins Jr. for his latest film, The Perfect Game, a couple of things came to mind. First of all, this touching story about the first non-u.S. baseball team to win the World Little League Series seemed like an unusual choice for the actor. Take a look at the past few films he has done, whether it’s Crank: High Voltage, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Extract or Star Trek, Perfect Game seemed to quietly find its way into release after a string of wild and wooly roles. Yet, that is the nature of Collins, he is never afraid of a challenge and he is always looking ahead to what hasn’t been done before.

This weekend, two morbidly-themed comedies enter the fray and are poised for lively debuts. Kick-Ass busts onto approximately 4,400 screens at 3,065 theaters, while Death at a Funeral (2010) pops onto over 3,000 screens at 2,459 theaters. Kick-Ass, which gets a jump on the weekend with 10 p.m. Thursday previews at around 1,500 locations, has the hype machine in full swing behind it. The movie's premise is kind of a like a side story from The Dark Knight or The Incredibles elevated to an R-rated main story: bumbling ordinary people trying to be superheroes. Adapted from the comic-book series of the same name, Kick-Ass has purportedly piqued the interest of fan boys by courting them at their conventions, and the high-octane marketing has been tuned to hit the notes they like, such as wish-fulfillment, ultra-violence, self-referential jokes and an unlikely character taking people out like a ninja (a young girl called "Hit Girl"). Should Kick-Ass succeed,...

Jake T. Austin is a busy guy. Not only is he making films and working on the popular Disney show “Wizards of Waverly Place,” but he’s developing a passion project of his own. While promoting his latest feature, “The Perfect Game,” Austin took some time to discuss his future plans, which includes a "Stand By Me"-inspired story called "Kings of Suburbia."
"I’m writing a film [that is] kind of like ‘Stand By Me,'" he said, referring to the 1986 buddy drama starring Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell, which was itself adapted from a Stephen King novella. “It is my favorite movie. Sure, last season Russell Hantz may have played the game like no one ever had before. But J.T. Thomas played Survivor's only Perfect Game in Tocantins. No one ever voted against him, and in the end every juror voted for him.
By all rights, that should make Survivor's Southern gentleman an obvious threat on Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains; and on All Stars seasons obvious threats tend to be the first ones voted out.

Video Game Rating: 4.5/5.0 Chicago – We are undeniably in a gaming era in which the first-person shooter is king, but players of a certain age can remember a time when fighting games ruled the day. “Street Fighter IV” has the potential to reverse the Fps trend.
There are still some fun punch-n-kick games on the market like “Super Smash Bros. Brawl” and “Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe” was surprisingly enjoyable, but fighting games are not as prevalent as they were when “Mortal Kombat” and “Street Fighter” sequels ruled the arcade universe.
I have to admit, Capcom got me a copy of “Street Fighter IV” after the wave of positive reviews that accompanied the title on opening day. The 94 on Metacritic puts the game number six All-time for PS3 titles, right after “Metal Gear Solid IV” and right above “Elder Scrolls IV,” two undeniably awesome releases. So, my expectations were through the roof.
