Parents Guide for
American Pie (1999) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Note: The number at the beginning of each section refers to how explicit that aspect of the film is on a scale of 1-10. The fraction at the end of the Frightening/Intense Scenes category is the total sum of all the sections out of the highest sum possible (50) and therefore an approximation of how much explicit content of any kind is in the film.

Rating: 10/10

Lots of strong frank references and jokes about sex, including masturbation, ejaculation, oral sex, etc.

The movie opens with a scene with a teenage boy watching porn, his parents then walk in and catch him

Some non-graphic sex scenes involving teenagers- explicitly depicting oral sex (performed by both males and females) and in another scene, the physical pain of a girl losing her virginity.

A young man ejaculates in a glass of beer; another young man accidentally drinks it. (we see sperm mixed with beer)

A boy is caught with his penis in a tube sock.

A man shows his son several pornographic magazines, very little is seen though.

In one infamous scene, the lead character puts his penis in a pie. His dad walks in on him lying on the kitchen table thrusting into the pie.

One sequence involves teenage males spying on a female exchange student stripping down to her underwear via a webcam (her breasts are seen though it is fuzzy)

She bares her breasts for several minutes and proceeds to masturbate while she looks at a pornographic magazine she finds nearby.

Later in the same scene, a boy proceeds to have sex with her but prematurely ejaculates twice before anything can occur.

A father talks to his son about masturbation. He calls it "stroking the salami" and "petting the one-eyed snake".

A boy talks about being the Shermanator, a sophisticated sex machine sent to change the future of one woman.

A teenage boy tells his girlfriend to "suck" him

A teenage girl tells her boyfriend that one time she stuck a flute up her "pussy"

Violence & Gore

Rating: 2/10

A man drinks beer with semen in it.

A teenage boy puts laxatives in another teenager's coffee, then we see him having explosive diarreah

Profanity

Rating: 7/10

23 F-words and one obscene finger gesture, many scatological references, anatomical references and mild obscenities.

Rating: 6/10

Parties are held where underaged drinking takes place.

Rating: 1/10

None of note.

An idea of how accurate the TECE (below) is: 5-10 is a little-kid suitable, G-Rated type of film (i.e. Care Bears, Sleeping Beauty); 10-15 is going to be a little harsher, but not by much (i.e. The Incredibles); 15-20 could be pretty high up there (i.e. Indiana Jones), 20-25 is going to pretty darn adult (i.e. The Dark Knight); 25-30 is going to be a film most likely not suitable for anyone under 17(i.e. Braveheart); 30-40 is probably going to be an adults-only film (i.e. Superbad). 40 and up is pretty much high R / NC-17 (i.e. Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction.)

Overall Rating: 28/50

Suitable for 17+
