Julia Roberts and James Corden Recreate Her Career in 9 Minutes, Have a ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ Sing-Along

5 October 2017 1:05 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Julia Roberts is just a girl, standing in front of James Corden, asking him to act out her movies with her. The 49-year-old Oscar winner recreated some of her top films during a clip, which aired on Wednesday's The Late Late Show.

Starting out with her iconic line from Notting Hill, she went on to act out scenes from Runaway Bride, Steel Magnolias, Charlie Wilson’s War, Mystic Pizza, Pretty Woman, Hook, Erin Brockovich, The Pelican Brief, and Sleeping With the Enemy.

When it came time to act out Oceans 11 and 12, Corden stepped out in an interesting outfit.

“What are you doing?” Roberts asked him.

“I’m being George Clooney! I’ve got coffee, tequila, a couple of these,” he said, knocking together some twin baby dolls.

David Madden in Talks to Head Programming for AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios

30 August 2017 11:15 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

David Madden is poised to segue from Fox Broadcasting entertainment president to head of programming for AMC and SundanceTV.

The veteran TV executive and producer is in negotiations for a top programming post at AMC Networks, where he would also play a big role in running the AMC Studios production arm. Madden’s move would fill a void left in May by former AMC/SundanceTV programming chief Joel Stillerman’s move to Hulu as chief content officer.

Madden has been in discussions with AMC for some time. An AMC Networks rep declined to comment.

Madden’s background as a producer and studio executive is one of the draws for AMC. The company is in the process of beefing up its in-house production operation as its cable channels — AMC, SundanceTV, BBC America, IFC and We TV — seek to own outright more of their original programming.

Madden has spent the past three years steering scripted and unscripted programming for »

Fox Exec David Madden’s Past Films Inspire His Present-Day TV

9 August 2017 9:20 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

In the early days of David Madden’s career, his office was a film set. He got his start with a Lifetime TV movie he wrote and directed, entitled “A Part of the Family,” before moving onto producing more mainstream projects such as “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” “Runaway Bride” and “Save the Last Dance.” Now Madden, who oversees dozens of television projects as the president of entertainment for Fox, still keeps his history close by on the walls, windowsills, and tabletops of his bright Century City office to let the lessons he learned in the past inform the new decisions he makes.

Second Sticks

Sentimentality may be the first reason Madden gives when explaining why four production slates from key projects he produced — including his “personal” debut, “A Part of the Family” — adorn his office even today. But his time on set prior to becoming a suit also shaped Madden’s understanding of the filmmaking »

Julia Roberts is in talks to team up with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail on his next TV series, “Homecoming,” Variety has confirmed.

“Homecoming” is an adaptation of the fictional podcast of the same name from Gimlet Media, which launched this past November. The podcast is about staffers at a secret government agency where some are desperate to rejoin civilian life. Written by Esmail, the political thriller centers on a caseworker at a secret government facility, her supervisor and a soldier. Roberts is in talks to play the government caseworker.

When “Homecoming” was first announced in early development, Variety reported that the project would be a star vehicle before it hit the marketplace. Should Roberts sign on, the series will surely become a hot package with much interest across networks.

Lakeshore Entertainment Closes Deal for $250 Million Credit Facility

8 May 2017 12:26 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Lakeshore Entertainment Group — which has financed the “Underworld” franchise — has closed its fourth iteration of its revolving credit facility with partners recommitting to over $250 million for another five years.

JPMorgan again led the deal as sole bookrunner and administrative agent, alongside Bank of America and all existing capital partners, which provides a further five-year agreement. According to the company, the transaction never made it to the open capital markets, because Lakeshore’s current group of 10 banks all recommitted early to the new facility, most in amounts exceeding their prior commitments.

Lakeshore was launched in 1994 by CEO Tom Rosenberg. Producer Gary Lucchesi has been president since 1998. Its notable releases include “Runaway Bride,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “The Age of Adaline” and “The Boy.”

The company has one television show airing in January (Paramount TV’s “Heathers”) and plans to have another in production by the end of 2017.

Madam Secretary: Love Meets Politics and Heartbreak for Jay and Daisy

Everyone loves a love story. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as there is a fairy tale happy ending. Though in this week’s episode of Madam Secretary, there’s no such thing as a fairy tale ending. The whole modern-day Romeo and Juliet thing is an interesting take on political marriages. Usually, a union like this doesn’t last for very long. Or so I’ve heard. At least Juan-Luis and Soledad are smitten with each other instead of having to learn how to love. That is until the latter got all Runaway Bride on her husband-to-be. I completely understand why she

Rita Wilson, Archie Panjabi Cast in Fox Pilot About Sexual Assault on College Campuses

Rita Wilson and Archie Panjabi have been cast in Fox’s drama pilot about sexual scandals on college campuses, Variety has learned.

The untitled university project — formerly titled “Controversy” — centers around the Junior Counsel of a prestigious Illinois school that must deal with an out-of-control scandal when a young co-ed accuses several star football players of sexual assault. From the football coaches and boosters who wield outsize influence, to a university administration under siege, the series explores the type of high-profile controversy all-too familiar on today’s college campuses, as well as the corrosive, dangerous nature of institutional power.

Wilson will play Constance Hawthorne, the dignified but fierce head of Uci Board of Trustees. Panjabi will play Jourdan Price, the crisis management consultant brought in to help with the scandal.

Previously announced, Austin Stowell will also star in the Fox pilot as the central character, Matt Kincaid, the Junior Counsel of the university.
