Hooch (1977) was released theatrically by Omni Pictures in 1977, and later televised by CBS in 1981. The cult popularity of the film's theatrical release inspired and helped lead to the creation of The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985), a television series featuring John Schneider and Tom Wopat, by CBS in 1979, pre-dating the television broadcast of Hooch (1977) in 1981. Instead of driving an El Camino like Eddie Joe Rodgers, Bo and Luke Duke drove a 1969 Dodge Charger named "The General Lee". Hooch (1977) was filmed in North Carolina, while The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985) was filmed in Georgia and Louisiana. The world of Hooch (1977) was Appalachia, while the world of The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985) was fictitious Hazzard County, Georgia.
