It is stated numerous times that the murder victim was murdered in 1982. When the detectives narrow down a suspect from the time of the murder, they state he had a sexual offense conviction in 1995. When talking to the murder victim's best friend who was the last to see her near the murder site, she states it happened 12 years ago. Being that it was 1998, that would have meant the murder took place in 1986, not 1982.
