Brad Renfro has landed a supporting role opposite Adrien Brody and Keira Knightley in the Mandalay Pictures/Section Eight feature The Jacket, which is being distributed by Warner Independent Pictures. Directed by John Maybury, Jacket centers on a soldier convicted of murder who, during his treatment in a psychiatric hospital, begins to believe that he is traveling through time. Through his time travel, he searches for a woman he met as a child and is fated to love. The Jacket is written by Marc Rocco and Massy Tadjedin and is being produced by Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney and Peter Guber. Production is scheduled to begin next month in the United Kingdom. Renfro, whose credits include Ghost World and Bully, also has signed with ICM for representation. »

Coppola's 'Lost' finds way to Focus Features

Focus Features, the specialty arm of Universal Pictures, has sealed a pact to acquire North American rights to writer-director Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation, sources said. The project stars Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson (Ghost World), Anna Faris (the Scary Movie trilogy) and Giovanni Ribisi. Focus is also the international rights holder of Lost, which follows two Americans who meet in Tokyo. Murray stars as an actor in Japan shooting a whiskey ad, while Johansson is the wife of a workaholic photographer. The unlikely duo become friends at hotel bar on a sleepless night and embark on a series of adventures. Lost was produced by Coppola and Ross Katz (In the Bedroom) through the Elemental Films banner. The film, currently in postproduction, was repped by ICM. »
