Trivia

In response to the overwhelmingly negative reviews, the estates of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein have declared that there are to be no more animated features based on their musicals.
The original Broadway production of "The King and I" opened at the St. James Theater on March 29, 1951, ran for 1246 performances and won the 1952 Tony Award (New York City) for the Best Musical.
In a February 17th, 2009 interview on NPR's Fresh Air, Ted Chapin, President of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, said he considered allowing this movie to be made his "biggest mistake in terms of granting or denying permission" to any of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's works.
