Kellan Lutz Up For "He-Man" Reboot?

25 June 2016 8:04 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Though talk of the "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" cinematic reboot has been going around for some time, there hasn't been much movement on the project in recent years beyond the attachment of McG ("Charlie's Angels," "Terminator Salvation") as director.

Now it seems one actor has used social media to indicate he's at least met over the film and could be in the running - "Twilight" series actor Kellan Lutz. Lutz just tweeted:

"Hey @HeManTheMovie and all Motu fans, Had an amazing meeting with @McGsWonderland and @ItsMaryViola talking Motu. Its In Great Hands!"

For those wondering Mary Viola is the president of McG's production company Wonderland Sound & Vision. A meeting is a long way from even negotiations though, and how many actors McG has met for the film is unclear.

So far there's been few rumors regarding who'll play the protector of Castle Grayskull or when the »

Tucker, Glover Join Starz's "American Gods"

14 April 2016 9:37 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Jonathan Tucker ("Kingdom") and Crispin Glover ("Charlie's Angels") have joined the cast of the upcoming premium cable series adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed contemporary fantasy novel "American Gods".

The story posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society's modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.

Ricky Whittle plays Shadow Moon, an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), a conman who in reality is one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

Tucker is the philosophical Low Key Lyesmith, Shadow's one confidante in prison who offers sage advice to ready him for the outside world.

Glover will play Mr. World, the seemingly omniscient leader at the center of the New Gods coalition, »

Nicknames are often meant as terms of endearment, but we might have to question Drew Barrymore's unique title for her childhood Bff, Cameron Diaz.  While the actresses joined each other for the first time on the silver screen to beat up the bad guys in the 2000 reboot of Charlie's Angels and subsequent sequel, they had known each other since they were high school freshmen.  "I've known Poo Poo [Cameron Diaz] since I was 14 years old," she shared in the April issue of Marie Claire. "We just happened to know each other before her career started, and I was working in a coffeehouse trying to refigure out my life." Spielberg's Best Pictures and New DVDs

2 February 2016 12:30 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Time to check in to see which movies we all can check back in with or catch up with now that they've hit the home market. The big title, Oscar wise is Steven Spielberg's 10th Best Picture nominee as a director, the cold war drama Bridge of Spies with Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance both doing fine work as a lawyer and the spy he must bargain with for a prisoner of war trade. Only one of Spielberg's directorial efforts has ever won Best Picture (Schindler's List, 1993) but which is your favorite? I'd rank them like so...

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Schindler's List (1993) Jaws (1975) E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (1982) Lincoln (2012) The Color Purple (1985) Bridge of Spies (2015) Saving Private Ryan (1998) Munich (2005) War Horse (2011)

With the disclaimer that everyone knows I'm not a Spielberg aficionado really (the top three are the only ones I'm completely wild about from this list »

Why the 'Masters of the Universe' reboot may have finally found the perfect director

22 January 2016 2:08 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Needless to say, Masters of the Universe isn't exactly high art. The long-defunct Mattel franchise -- which began as a toy line first before being spun off into a popular Saturday morning cartoon series in the 1980s -- was a silly diversion for the under-10 set that was perfectly suited to being served up with heavy doses of sugary breakfast cereal. And yet so was Transformers, which didn't keep it from being turned into a multi-billion-dollar live-action film franchise that cut across demographic barriers. Still, it hasn't been quite so easy for He-Man -- Masters' blond-locked, impossibly-muscled central hero -- on the big screen. The first effort at a live-action film, 1987's Masters of the Universe, was beset by numerous production problems, a lead actor who could barely deliver dialogue, and ridiculous contractual stipulations from Mattel that inadvertently led to charges of Star Wars copycatism. While it certainly had its charms, »

McG in Talks to Direct Sony’s Masters of the Universe Movie, and I Will Defend His Work on Charlie’s Angels to the Death

22 January 2016 10:36 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

"The Charlie's Angels movies prove my point" certainly isn't a sentence anyone ever plans to type, but here we are. According to Deadline, McG is the latest in a long and storied line of directors linked to Sony's Masters of the Universe movie. (As you might recall from being a child, Masters follows the adventures of warrior-prince He-Man and his motley crew of superfriends as they fight to defeat the evil Skeletor.) Okay, okay, sure, maybe not everyone enjoyed the Charlie's Angels reboot as much as I did, but those movies at least suggest that McG can handle the mix of tongue-in-cheek comedy and legit action needed to make Masters of the Universe work. He-Man has a bob, for God's sake! He's also practically nude! Yeah, McG is looking like our best bet. »

McG To Direct 'Masters Of The Universe'

22 January 2016 8:32 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

For a few years now, Hollywood has been trying to reboot "Masters Of The Universe," and make the 1987 version with Dolph Lundgren a distant memory. Back in 2012, Jon M. Chu ("G.I. Joe: Retaliation") was tapped to direct, but left a little while later. Then in 2014, a shortlist of directors emerged for the project including Mike Cahill (“Another Earth”), Jeff Wadlow ("Kick-Ass 2"), Chris McKay (“The Lego Batman Movie”), and Harald Zwart (“The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones"), but not much movement happened on that. However, the project now has someone at the helm, and it's not much more exciting than any of those names. The Masters Of The Universe reboot has set its sights on McG to direct...

Sony's planned big screen reboot of Masters Of The Universe may be about to take a notable step forward, as news lands that McG is in talks to direct the movie.

McG's last film was the disappointing Kevin Costner vehicle Three Days To Kill, but he's made his name off the back of Terminator: Salvation and two Charlie's Angels features.

Deadline reports that he's now in talks with Sony about taking on the director's chair for the new Masters Of The Universe. The thinking is that the studio can build a Transformers-style franchise if it gets the first movie right.

Alex Litvak and Mike Finch penned the latest draft of the script, and McG is going to oversee a rewrite. He's also shooting his new movie, The Babysitter, which is set for »

McG In Line To Direct The He-Man Reboot

22 January 2016 6:38 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

McG ("Charlie's Angels," "Terminator Salvation") is in talks to potentially direct the "Masters Of The Universe" reboot at Sony Pictures, Escape Artists and Franklin Entertainment.

The toys and famous cartoon series follows He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior and becomes the last hope for a magical world that has been ravaged by the sinister Skeletor.

The property was previously adapted into a live-action feature in 1987 by Cannon Films with Dolph Lungdren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.

Attempts have been made over the years to revive it, but the film picked up steam thanks to a script by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch entitled "Grayskull," a title that can no longer be used. McG will oversee a re-write of that script.

Little has changed in the three years since "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" director Jon Chu was said to be in talks for the gig, that obviously didn't pan out. »
