There is NOTHING special about Appassionata. It is just a run-of-the-mill porn flick. I find it hard to believe that it was shot on film; the picture quality on the tape that I rented was very very poor, with most scenes appearing mildly over-exposed, and the colors were washed out.
And it is not a couples' tape by any stretch of the imagination. There is nothing here that a woman would find appealing. My SO, who has an indulgent attitude towards my porn consumption (and who even joins me sometimes) watched for about 20 minutes before leaving the room, not in disgust, but in boredom.
There is some un-objectionable piano playing and some nice costumes. But the story is incoherant, switching crazily between the past and the present. Not that I expected Moby Dick, but I had hoped that there would be something close to what you could find in the average "Golden Age" flick.
Although this is supposed to be a period piece, most of the action takes place in the present with Ms. Asia Carrera riding around in a van with a long-haired dude.
I could have forgiven all if the sex had been interesting. Unfortunately, Appassionata does not even have that saving grace. The performers look like they are wondering what is for dinner. Even Ms. Carrera's performance is completely lack-luster.
I am not a fan of pierced genitalia, either in men or women, and the extreme closeups of the ring with which Ms. Carrera has chosen to adorn her privates was the last straw.
If you are a die-hard fan of Ms. Carrera, you might get something out of this movie. Else, save your money. Holly Body is a hundred times hotter than her!
