Storyline

On the heels of the syndicated success of "Wheel of Fortune, " producer Merv Griffin decided to return his classic quiz show-with-a-twist, "Jeopardy!" to the airwaves in 1984. It, too, was a huge success, and also marked a return to the game's tried-and-true formula of answers and questions (after a slightly-modified remake six years earlier failed to catch on). Three contestants, including a returning champion, competed. Six categories are announced (e.g., Art World, Cooking, 20th Century Republicans, "Friends" (the TV series), Muscle Men and College Girls Wearing White T-shirts), each having five answers ostensibly graded by difficulty, from $100 to $500. The champion chose a category and dollar amount (e.g., "College Girls Wearing White T-shirts for $100"), to which host Trebek reads the answer ("Inspector 12 must give her seal of approval before a college girl can wear one of these plain white T-shirts"). Contestants had to respond in question form ("What is Hanes?") ; if correct,... Written by Brian Rathjen <briguy_52732@yahoo.com>

Trivia

Beginning with the second season in 1985, the set background would change from blue to red in the Double Jeopardy! and Final Jeopardy! rounds. This practice was discontinued in Season 14 on October 6, 1997, although, on the Celebrity Jeopardy! Sportscasters episode that aired on January 23, 1998, the set did change to red in those rounds. Starting in 2002, with the debut of set#4, the set background changing to red for Final Jeopardy! However, the practice wasn't reinstated for Double Jeopardy!. See more »

I'll take "The Best Game Show Ever" for $1,000, Alex.
26 July 2006 | by (Portland, Oregon, USA) – See all my reviews

I guess that the reason that "Jeopardy!" is so great is that it really challenges you to think, and I've learned so many interesting facts from it. I hope to be a contestant one day. Obviously, Ken Jennings's winning streak was beyond impressive, and the "Celebrity Jeopardy!" spoofs on "Saturday Night Live" are priceless. But it all dates back to this show's premise of forming the answer as a question. It must be really fun coming up with the answers.

I will say that the Clue Crew is unnecessary. But either way, I still say that this is the best game show ever. Alex Trebek is one heckuva host. There will never be another show like this.

So which category to take now?
