Storyline

Depression era drama set in Alberta finds a farmer's wife who swears that her inability to have a child is a punishment from God. In fact, it is slowly revealed that her inability to have a child stems from an illicit relationship that she had with a local priest and a subsequent operation forced on her in a cover-up by the church and her family which left her infertile. An excellent period piece
16 August 2001 | by (Windsor, Ontario, Canada) – See all my reviews

An excellent characterization of the things that can happen when one person or organization has the power to dictate the mores and lives of so many others. Despite the fact that my family name and that of the screenwriter are the same, I am in no way (as far as I know) related to her, hence: no nepotism. Having made that point, as an aspiring screenwriter myself, I can appreciate the very fine writing in this film. Well crafted...congratulations and good luck t
