Trivia

Originally the series was planned to have five seasons of total 60 episodes, however after fourth season, YLE TV2 decided to cut the budget and as the creators did not want to make shorter last season, the series end "prematurely". A novel named "Ei muuta kunniaa" (no other glory) was released in 2004 that told the events planned for the fifth season of "Hovimäki" TV-series. See more »

One of the best historical drama series
1 June 2007 | by (Finland) – See all my reviews

Hovimäki is, no doubt, one of the best historical drama series that portrays the history of Finland. The series might not open up for foreigners, but for a Finn, it's very enjoyable to watch. Acting performances are not always entirely smooth, which is why I reduced one point instead of giving a full 10 ;) Still, Hovimäki is enchanting; capturing the mood and painting a realistic image of past times. The extra drama between characters makes the series more entertaining and the destiny of characters is nicely woven together with historical events.

Highly recommended to anyone interested in Finnish history.
