Widely regarded as the greatest baseball player who ever lived, Ty Cobb made his only starring movie appearance in the low-budget six-reeler "Somewhere in Georgia". Based on a story by legendary sports columnist Grantland Rice, the film casts Cobb as "himself", a small-town Georgian bank clerk with a talent for baseball. When he's signed to play with the Detroit Tigers, Cobb is forced to leave his sweetheart (Elsie McLeod) behind, whereupon a crooked bank cashier sets his sights on the girl. Upon learning that Cobb has briefly returned home to play an exhibition game with his old team, the cashier arranges for Our Hero to be kidnapped. Breaking loose from his bonds, Cobb beats up each each and every one of his captors and shows up at the ballfield =just= in time to win the game for the home team. Written by jefferson-3

Did You Know?

Ty Cobb did it for the money and personally felt the movie was losing proposition. It did create much excitement for those who were not close enough to the big cities to watch Cobb play. They could go to their local theatre and see Cobb on the big screen. See more »

Terrible early baseball fluff
8 May 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Often cited as the worst baseball movie ever made, time hasn't exactly been kind. Noted only for Ty Cobb's appearance as the film's hero, the movie suffered badly from choppy editing, and a terrible plot.

The film is a about a baseball player (Cobb) who is a star. He's approached by gamblers about throwing a few games. When he declines, the gamblers kidnap and hold hims hostage. They bet large sums of money that Cobb's team will lose.

He manages to escape, and rides to the game on a donkey (yeah, you read that right) in order to get into the line up in the ninth inning, and save the day for his team.

Hard to watch, with a plot that had to seem silly, even in it's time.
