There is a scene in which dozens of people witness Gonzo's declaration of his alien origins on live TV. One follower explains that they were drawn to the Muppet Boarding House and produces a mashed potato sculpture in the shape of Gonzo's head. The concept spoofs a similar phenomenon from Close Encounters of the Third Kind whereupon earthlings were drawn to Devil's Tower by images of the monolith implanted in their brains by the aliens.
Early in the movie, the king prawn Pepe distorts his voice by talking into a table fan and says "Build a jacuzzi and we will come, okay?". This remark is a spoof on Field Of Dreams (1989) where Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) hears a voice in his field that says: "Build it and he will come" (where "it" refers to a baseball field). In both movies the main characters go with the voices and finish their projects without really knowing why.
The film parodies Andy's escape scene
