The "Big Body" pizza box in the infamous stabbing scene usually gets a few chuckles from English-speaking viewers, who are no doubt thinking about the food's fat content. However, "Big Body" is actually an homage to Susumu Hirasawa (who would later compose music for Millennium Actress (2001) and Paranoia Agent (2004), also by director Kon) and his electronically band "P-Model." Big Body is the name of their tenth album, released in 1993.

There are many parallels between this film and the American movie Black Swan with Natalie Portman. -Main character in Perfect Blue is named Mima. In Black Swan the character is called Nina -Mima sings in a girl pop group Cham! wearing a tutu in hopes of becoming bigger. Nina dances for a ballet class in hopes of becoming bigger. -Mima and Nina both suffer a traumatic experience -both characters have their psyche altered from this experience -both films contain a substantial ammount of blood, sex and violence. -the main character is sent a threat calling her names. With Mima it's a fax and with Nina it's on the mirror of the ladie's toilets. -Both film titles contain colours

The title 'Perfect Blue' has double meaning to it, and multiple aspects of the story hint to it. For example, at the end when Mima exits the hospital after seeing Rumi, the only shot with a clear sky in it appears, meaning that the confusion in Mima's life is over.
