What You Missed Last Night: Scoldplay

  • Aol TV.
Are you sick of the whole Representative Joe Wilson controversy yet? Were you sick of it four or five days ago? Jon Stewart and The Daily Show are too, and last night they showed how the people asking for an apology from Wilson are being hypocritical, and how both sides do this all the time and then ask for an apology when the other side does it.

In other words, politics really suck.

What You Missed Last Night: Conan gets kicked in the chest

  • Aol TV.
A lot of Conan O'Brien's bits go on way too long. This segment is a lot longer than I thought it would be, but it's okay because there are some great payoffs. Stuntman Steven Ho showed up on The Tonight Show last night to punch and kick Conan and to make him jump through a window. This was practiced, of course, but it could have gone wrong. Conan is pretty funny with stuff like this.

(Side note: TV Tattle wonders if Conan is having trouble getting guests since this is Ho's third appearance since June. Or maybe Conan just loves doing stunts.)

Where Were Rachel Zoe, Sienna Miller, and Rihanna Last Night?

The Tory Burch storefront. From PatrickMcMullan.com. It's not every night in New York City when you have more than a dozen events to attend in multiple neighborhoods within a five-hour time period, but that was the task yesterday during Fashion’s Night Out. Strategically starting uptown, the first stop was the Missoni boutique on Madison Avenue where Margherita Missoni was on hand to give guests style tips on creating their own personalized limited-edition Missoni tote bags. “I definitely feel like people are out and about and excited about tonight,” said the heiress, who had a to-do list of her own for later. “I haven’t had a chance to go around yet, but I want to go to Bergdorf Goodman and see what is going on. Apparently it’s a madhouse.” Chatting with Margherita was stylist Rachel Zoe and her husband Rodger Berman. Zoe has a busy week ahead

What You Missed Last Night: Matt Damon isn't dead and George Clooney isn't gay

  • Aol TV.
Matt Damon was on The Late Show last night to promote his new film The Informant! As usual, he did his Matthew McConaughey impersonation for Dave and they also talked about a recent web rumor that Damon had died (really? I guess I missed that one).

This led to Damon telling another story about the Venice Film Festival involving George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and a stripping journalist.

What You Missed Last Night: Fallon resolves the Beck/Olbermann feud

  • Aol TV.
For a split second I thought that when Jimmy Fallon announced on the latest edition of "Beef Solvers" last night that the real Keith Olbermann and Glenn Beck were going to come out on stage and do a funny bit about their ongoing feud. But I quickly remembered that those two guys really do hate each other and will never be up for any "let's make a funny cameo on late night TV" bit. They'll gladly savage each other on their own shows, but not together in harmony.

So Jimmy got two audience members to take their place. Let's see if Keith or Glenn mention this on their shows tonight.

What You Missed Last Night: Kathie Lee's pool noodle justice

  • Aol TV.
So Kathie Lee never answered my e-mail reply to her question about me, but she did go crazy on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. She surprised the show's staff with a pool noodle (if you're like me, you had no idea what a pool noodle was until this video).

What You Missed Last Night: a Conan made of chocolate and bacon

  • Aol TV.
The Minnesota State Fair sent Conan O'Brien a strange gift, and he unveiled it on The Tonight Show last night. I hope they have a lot of security there because I don't know how that thing is going to last if they don't. And then there's the bacon smell over time...

Well, at the very least, maybe it will finally bring bring celebrities to the studio.

Last Night's Party Circuit: Island Dining Up, Upstaging the Hostess Down

Who and What Are Up and Down and Why Peaches Geldorf ↓ Taking risqué dressing to a whole other level, the "It" girl headed out for the night in London in a pair of battered black tights topped by extremely small denim shorts that gave passersby a full view of her plaid underpants. Upstaging the Hostess ↓ You'd think all eyes would have been on Maria Sharapova at the Tiffany and InStyle party for the tennis ace, but she was promptly trumped by the appearance of birthday girl Blake Lively, who managed to get the ballphotographers firmly in her court.

What You Missed Last Night: Anna Wintour does not play baseball

  • Aol TV.
Vogue editor (and Devil Wears Prada subject) Anna Wintour was on The Late Show last night. She came out in her trademark sunglasses but didn't wear them for the interview (that would have been fantastic). After talking to Dave about her work and a new documentary about her, he talked to her about playing baseball with the next guest Mark Texiera. Sadly, she didn't want to. It would have been great to see Wintour shagging flies.

Last Night's Party Circuit: Wedding Bells Up, Animals as Accessories Down

Who and What Are Up and Down and Why House Guests ↑ Jay McInerney and Anne Hearst McInerney's Hamptons home was the site of the annual gala for the Shriver-family-founded charity Best Buddies. Among the attendees: Amanda Hearst, New York governor David Paterson, Alejandro Santo Domingo, Campion and Tatiana Platt, and Nacho Figueras. Overstaying Your Welcome ↓ Attending the U.K.'s V Fest concert as a spectator on Saturday, Amy Winehouse was invited onstage by the Specials at the end of the band's set. That would have been a positive way for the rehabbed singer to mark her return to the U.K. performance circuit, but then she also had to join Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty during his gig, where she didn't sing—she just kept kissing his cheek and whispering in his ear.

Last Night's Party Circuit: Cool Dads Up, Awkward Run-Ins Down

Who and What Are Up and Down and Why Public Nudity ↓ Cricket games are not typically considered the place to experiment with sheer clothing, yet this is exactly what singer Lily Allen did in London when she removed her jacket to reveal quite a lot to spectators during England's match against Australia. Francisco Costa ↑ The Calvin Klein designer's sophisticated status was cemented at the New York City opening of C.K.'s shop within Saks as Alexa Chung, Elettra Wiedemann, Melissa George and Lauren Santo Domingo flocked to the designer's side.

Last Night's Party Circuit: Trophy Wives Down, Dinner Parties Up

Who and What Are Up and Down and Why Being Outpaced by a Middle-Ager ↓ You would think that when your beau has 40 years on you, it would be easy to keep up. Not so for Ronnie Wood's 20-year-old girlfriend, who was spotted trailing behind the Rolling Stone and passing out in a cab after dinner at London restaurant J Sheekey. The September Issue ↑ Funny how the movie's New York City premiere serendipitously coincided with the newsstand release of Vogue's actual September issue. The crowd at the MoMA screening included Vogue editors Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington, MTV host Alexa Chung, Renée Zellweger, Sienna Miller, Diddy, and actresses Zoe Kazan and Carey Mulligan, and Marc Jacobs.

What You Missed Last Night: Fox News hosts are the new liberals

  • Aol TV.
While I don't agree that most people get their news from The Daily Show or that it's more important than the news, I think it is must see TV because it's usually going to show you something in a way you've never seen before, and it will change the way that you watch news (whether it's Fox News or MSNBC, it doesn't matter). That's a good thing.

Like last night's summary of how one network is presenting news of town hall confrontations and how they compare to what has happened in the past. The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c Fox News: The New Liberals www.thedailyshow.com

Last Night's Party Circuit: Hitting the Beaches, Islands

Who and What Are Up and Down and Why Le Club 55 ↑ Some things never change: August proves that even a recession can't ward off the crowd at this St. Tropez spot. Recent sightings include Naomi Campbell, King Abdullah and Queen Rania, and François Pinault. Desperate Bids for Attention, Part One ↓ Kanye West is used to all eyes being on him but he didn't stand a chance when girlfriend Amber Rose hit the beach on their Barcelona getaway wearing only skimpy bathing-suit bottoms.

What You Missed Last Night: Britney in a bikini

  • Aol TV.
This was the "surprise" appearance that wasn't a surprise at all, since everyone talked about it all day yesterday. And I'm not even sure why Britney Spears being on a talk show is such a big pop culture event, but it gave us the chance to see her in a bikini giving the Top Ten List.

It was...awkward, probably because she's not only in a bikini but also it was via satellite and taped.

Last Night's Party Circuit: Brad Pitt Down, Beatrice Inn Refugees Up

Who and What Are Up and Down and Why Brad Pitt ↓ Guests at New York City's Cinema Society and Hugo Boss screening of Inglourious Basterds were disappointed by the leading man's absence, made curious by the fact that he managed to attend last week's premiere of The Time Traveler's Wife, a film he produced. Making up for the loss at the after-party at the new Standard Hotel were Quentin Tarantino, Diane Kruger, George Hamilton, Mike Myers, Chace Crawford, and Agyness Deyn, along with pretty much every other city society figure. Beatrice Inn Refugees ↑ Devotees of the club may still be lobbying to "Save Beatrice," but they'll likely be pleased to hear that guru Paul Sevigny is planning a new night spot, this time in SoHo.

What You Missed Last Night: Glenn Beck debates Glenn Beck on healthcare

  • Aol TV.
The Daily Show is not a news organization, though I think we can all agree that it does some of the things that news organizations should be doing, such as going back into the video archives and seeing if there are contradictions in what a politician or TV news person says. Last night Jon Stewart talked about healthcare and how it affected Glenn Beck last year. The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c Glenn Beck's Operation www.thedailyshow.com

What You Missed Last Night: Diced Hamm

  • Aol TV.
I'm still trying to figure out this dice game that Jon Hamm taught Jimmy Fallon and Steve Higgins last night. I get the basic concept of the game, but I'm confused by how many dice you can take away after each roll. You can take away one die or two dice? Is it any two dice or does it have to add up to three? Any help?

Also: shouldn't they be drinking Old-Fashioneds or Martinis instead of beer?

What You Missed Last Night: Jon Stewart on Miss Crankypants Suit

  • Aol TV.
You've probably seen video of Hillary Clinton's response to a question at a press conference in the Congo. Someone asked her what President Clinton thought about something. She, well, didn't like that question at all.

I don't quite understand the end though, when the audience "oooos" about the CNN anchors saying the person who asked the question might have been talking about President Obama and made a mistake. The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon - Thurs 11p / 10c Hillary in the Congo www.thedailyshow.com

Last Night's Party Circuit: Angelina Up, Fulbright Scholars Down

Who and What Are Up and Down and Why Ben Silverman ↓ Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The former NBC golden boy wasn't even shot by paparazzi at the Inglourious Basterds premiere in Los Angeles. Angelina Jolie ↑ Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie showed up at the screening sporting a gothic-chic look (complete with a black Michael Kors dress and strappy Dior sandals), proving that Megan Fox types are mere imitators.
