The 11 Most Underrated Movies of 2016

The 11 Most Underrated Movies of 2016
Although 2016 is a record-breaking year in ticket sales at the U.S. box office, that statistic doesn’t tell the whole story. In fact, it’s the best of times and the worst of times at the movies. Big-screen epics like “Rogue One” are striking it rich, but independent movies have never had a tougher time competing for an audience’s limited attention.

For every “Captain America: Civil War” or “Finding Dory,” dozens of small- or medium-sized films went unnoticed in 2016. These feast-or-famine returns are part of the business, but the volume of prestige titles that are falling through the cracks is growing. The new economic reality is that fledgling distributors don’t know how to sell as many tickets (or simply can’t). Blame it on TV, Netflix, the 24-hour news cycle or the short-attention span of millennials.

But whatever is going on, it’s leaving great movies on the shelf,

‘Bad Moms’ Producer Suzanne Todd: Why the Veteran Producer Likes Staying Outside the Box

Many in Hollywood pair Suzanne Todd with her younger sister and producing partner Jennifer, long known as Team Todd. They produced a raft of movies together, many at freewheeling New Line Cinema, including teen coming-of-age classic “Now and Then” and Mike Meyers’ Austin Powers franchise. They also put on the map Christopher Nolan (“Memento”) and Ben Younger (“Boiler Room”). And while they both produced Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” with Joe Roth at Disney, for its sequel “Through the Looking Glass,” Jennifer was busy running Pearl Street Films, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company, while Suzanne carried on with the “Alice” sequel. And so she went solo on “Bad Moms,” which Stx opened well this weekend.

First Trailer For Minecraft: Story Mode Has Arrived

After being announced last December, Telltale Games has debuted the first trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode during this weekend’s Minecon event, which is currently underway in Stockholm, Sweden.

Developed in collaboration with Mojang, Minecraft: Story Mode brings a narrative-driven adventure to the world of Minecraft for the first time in franchise history. Inspired by the rabid fanbase of Mojang’s astoundingly popular title, Story Mode will feature the captivating characters and layered storylines that Telltale Games has come to be known for.

In this adventure, players will step into the blocky shoes of Jesse, an ordinary fellow voiced by Patton Oswalt. After unwittingly unleashing an ancient terror while at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends must seek out The Order of the Stone, four adventurers who vanquished an Elder Dragon years prior. The mythical Order, comprised of a Warrior, Redstone, Engineer, Griefer and Architect, represents the best hope for saving the day.
