Season 1, Episode 1: A Side of Chile

Jesse is a single mother who works in her father John's bar while also applying into a nursing school. Jesse also has two brothers: John Junior, who is voluntarily mute until he learns to use language more efficiently, and Darren, who is trying to get rich with not-so-brilliant ideas. Jesse also has a son, Little John, who is handy in repelling jerks who try to hit on Jesse. Then a handsome Chilean, Diego, moves into the house next door and comes to borrow a can-opener. Jesse's dad takes instant dislike to Diego but Jesse feels attracted to Diego. Diego is pleased to learn that Jesse is single, but has to show restraint when Jesse tells her ex-husband walked out on her 7 years before. He asks Jesse out but she declines. Jesse's friend at work, Carrie, thinks that was a mistake. Jesse then decides to get to know Diego better.

Season 1, Episode 2: Goober Up the Nose

Jesse's annoying alarm clock keeps disrupting her dreams about Diego. Since Darren can't afford a place of his own at the moment, Jesse's very cute brunette friend from work, Carrie, suggests he stay at her place, but the dumb-ass just declines because he thinks he wouldn't get women then! Diego asks Jesse to go to movies with him, but her father objects. Jesse decides to ignore his opinion. Carrie and Jesse's other friend from work, the sexually aggressive Linda, help her choose something to wear. Then something unlikely happens on the date.

Diego points out to Jesse that Roy seems to be around a lot and Jesse seems to enjoy his company a lot. They get into a fight about it just before Diego is due to leave for a trip to New York. Carrie has agreed with Darren to try to make Linda jealous of her while on their group date, which is supposed to awake interest in Linda towards Darren. Roy surprises Jesse with a kiss.

Diego is not answering Jesse's calls. Linda starts asking about Darren, who has gone to pick up Carrie. Darren's plot to make Linda jealous is finally starting to work and Jesse realizes that Linda likes Darren. There's just the fact that Carrie isn't pretending to like Darren - she really likes him, he just doesn't know it. And the girls' "Code" says that they can't make a move for their best friend's guy. Jesse then invites Diego (who has a flu) for a Thanksgiving dinner even though Roy is coming there too. Diego refuses. Later, Jesse decides to take some soup over to Diego. She's supposed to be "back in two seconds"...

Little John has a part in kids' Christmas comedy stage-play of Jesus and his dog Barko. Diego is still upset about the kiss between Jesse and Roy. Roy has actually asked Jesse out on a date and Diego becomes jealous when he hears about it from Linda. Darren is going to appear in a TV commercial. He asks Carrie to return the ring he gave her in order to make Linda jealous, since the trick did not work. Carrie has had it and "breaks up" with Darren (they only pretended to be together), and Linda sees that her opportunity has presented itself.

Season 1, Episode 10: Boo! He's Gone

Diego appears on Jesse's doorstep in the middle of night to bang the door. He comes to bring an important message: Roy is "fundamentally evil". Jesse does not heed him. Linda has been arriving late to work for the whole week and Jesse's dad gives Jesse the task of reprimanding her. Meanwhile, Darren and Junior have a talk with Diego: their advice is: "Move along with your life." Diego then confronts Roy, telling that he is backing off. But that is not the conclusion...

Diego arrives at the bar out of breath. His car had broken down and he had pushed it for 8 blocks... in the winter. Junior declares Diego's car dead. Jesse apologizes about the incidents with Roy. They decide to try being just friends for a while. Since they are now friends, Jesse offers to help him get a best possible deal of his a new car. Darren and Junior have both been smitten by the same woman who visits the bar. Both think she is looking at specifically him. So they start competing for her attention.

Jesse estimates that she has served 200,000 beers at the bar over the course of 8 years and is sick of the bar. She has no high school diploma, so she decides to take night school so she can graduate and go study to become a nurse. Jesses math teacher then asks her out. But it's Diego she really likes. After encouraging from Carrie and Linda, Jesse gets the courage to ask Diego out, but before she has the chance to ask, Diego tells that a student asked him out and he said yes. So Jesse announces that she has agreed to go on a date with her math teacher. At Jesse's urge, Darren is considering jobs. Little John suggests Darren consider the advertising industry. Darren actually gets excited about the idea.

Season 1, Episode 13: My Casual Friend's Wedding

Linda has a break-up with her boyfriend. Jesse, Carrie and Linda's high school so-called-friend April is getting married and this would be the first time the girls met since graduating (except that Jesse had to drop out before that, of course). Jesse points that there would be a lot of single men there. So they attend the reception. April, however, does not recall Carrie, even though she claimed to have been close to April in high school. April asks Jesse to be her maid of honor, since her sister didn't make it all the way from Italy. Carrie is upset. Meanwhile, the B plot finally starts Little John, Junior and Darren are hanging at the bar when Diego arrives. There is shortage of staff and John Sr. drafts Junior and Darren. Diego volunteers, but John Sr. still dislikes him and refuses his offer to help. Can Diego make John Sr. change his opinion of him? Back at the reception, something inappropriate happens...

Diego had mentioned a university cocktail party to Jesse, who assumed it an invitation to be his plus-one. However, at Diego's place, Jesse finds that Diego already has a date: the sexy student, Gwen (the apparently ageless Pauley Perrette, cf. NCIS, 10 years later), whom Diego has been seeing a while (since #1.12). Jesse goes nuts and starts to live an imaginary life according to the examples in the film noir marathon on TV... A life where Diego is a private eye and Jesse is a femme fatale. A life where someone kills Gwen in the first scene. Sad, but at least we see that Pauley Perrette has amazing legs.

Jesse urges his dad to ask Marianne out. Will he do it? Diego sees refuge in the bar because Gwen is stalking him! Jesse says she can't help him. Will Diego end up as a chalk outline in the yard?

Jeese would like to go to movies with Diego, but Diego has some other plans and he refuses to reveal what they are. When Jesse threatens that thee're will be a week without sex, Diego cracks and confesses that his parents are coming to town for a few days from Chile. And Diego doesn't wan't Jesse to meet them because there is already enough friction between him and his parents. But Jesse insists that she can be a great buffer: she will ensure that Diego's parents enjoy their stay and don't get into arguments with their son. At least in theory.

Little John is being harassed by a bully named Moe in school. Jesse intends to speak to the boys mother but Little John panics at the thought - "It's just not done!" he insists. Jesse promises that everything will remain between just her and the bully's mother. "And so it begins!" Little John resigns to the fate that awaits him. Jesse goes to see the Moe's mom but only finds a stoner who says his name is Terry. And he's not Moe's dad. "Moe is Susan and Fez's kid. I'm just a friend... of Fez's", he explains. Terry goes to find Susan, who turns out to be Jesse's mother!

Darren has renamed the bar Drinkies and is holding the "first annual scavenger hunt". The grand prize is a Harley Davidson that Diego really wants, so he and Jesse split the list, although Jesse would rather spend the day together with him. So she has to play the "naked girl if we go together" card to talk him out of splitting the list. But what to do when the find an abandoned baby in the park?

Jesse and Diego are playing strip-pool - where nobody loses! Main story: Jesse receives of a letter of acceptance from the local school of nursing, with full scholarship. Darren confides in Jesse that he's nervous about running the bar without Jesse. And poor Diego gets fired from the University. Which means that if he doesn't find another job, he will lose his work visa and therefore he is in danger of being deported. And the visa applies only to art teacher jobs...

Season 2, Episode 1: Jesse's New Job

Diego proposed to Jesse, who declined. Diego had to accept a job elsewhere because otherwise he would have had to return to Chile. Linda is living in Diego's apartment until he gets it sold. Jesse's still studying, but she wishes to get a job on the side, so she has a job interview at the Student Health Center. The interviewer, Kurt, is a hard-ass nurse, who bluntly rejects Jesse in less than 60 seconds. Jesse pleads her case, but Kurt does not give in. Then he is told to clean up some vomit, which leads to him hiring Jesse who can be ordered do it for him.

Season 2, Episode 2: Driving Miss Jesse

Jesse's car breaks down. Linda refuses to leave from Diego's apartment. Diego could give Jesse and Carrie a ride, but there is too much friction between Jesse and Diego for it to work. Danny and Kurt carpool and Danny offers Jesse a seat. Kurt's not too fond of the situation. Diego threatens Linda with police, and Linda says she has found an apartment. But has she?

Season 2, Episode 3: Students Get Flu/Carrie at Zoo/Monkey Throw Poo

Diego tries to get Linda to paint his kitchen but Linda has found out that is too boring to do. She also has found out that Little John spends too much time with a boy called Gabe. Gabe is a nerd. And in Linda's mind, it is not in the best interest of Little John to hang out with a nerd. Meanwhile, the clinic is full of flu epidemic patients and Kurt is ecstatic to have so many people to boss around. Carrie arrives there to ask Jesse's advice and Danny declares to Kurt that she is 'fantastic'. When Jesse goes to do her work, Danny approaches Carrie. It does not go well. When Jesse comes home from work, Linda voices her concerns about Little John. Jesse is not alarmed. Then Carrie arrives to ask Jesse's advice. It concerns Russell. From the zoo. Jesse thinks they'll work it out. Carrie proposes that she could bring lunch the following day and they could talk while eating. Jesse agrees and rushes out. The next day, everyone gets to try the same thing again: Danny with Carrie, Carrie with Jesse, Linda with Jesse and Diego with Linda. Will they succeed?

Season 2, Episode 4: Everything But the Grill

It's the middle of October and it's unusually warm. So Jesse suggests to Carrie and Linda that they all barbecue. Jesse asks Linda to get her sweater, but Linda is reluctant to go home since Diego is there, painting and moping all day long over Jesse. So Jesse decides to invite him to barbecue. Carrie gets over-excited about the barbecue and stops by at the clinic the day before. Again, Danny embarrasses himself in front of her, but at least he gets invited to the barbecue. Even Kurt comes, despite his superficial lack of interest. Then he actually finds something deeply exciting at the barbecue.

Season 2, Episode 5: Jesse vs. Kurt

21 October 1999
Linda comes out from the shower to answer the phone, her towel drops and Diego sees her naked. Linda and Carrie then interpret everything Diego does (or does not do, for that matter) as a sign that Diego is now into Linda. Cue lots of confusion. Jesse has her first lunch together with Danny and Kurt. Danny says Jesse is now part of the "crew" and suddenly Kurt mentions a big mistake Jesse made at work. On the next day, he declines Jesse's invitation for lunch with her and Danny. Then Danny reveals that Kurt claims Jesse has stolen supplies. Jesse decides to confront Kurt.

Season 2, Episode 6: Jesse's Flat Tire

4 November 1999
Little John leaves for a 3-day trip to Albany. Carrie and Linda offer to take Jesse on a girls night out, but Jesse has already rented 'Shakespeare in Love'. The she gets a call from Kurt: she is needed at work because the new girl quit on her first day. Jesse tells she's sick. Kurt doesn't buy it. Jesse finds out that the video store gave her a documentary instead. So she decides to change the flat tire of her car. Diego happens to pass by and starts providing help. Both get a chance to admire each others behinds and old feelings start to rise to surface. Soon they are in each others arms again. But do they see it the same way?

Season 2, Episode 7: A Woman's Prerogative: The Jesse Warner Story

Jesse still has Diego's key, so she sneaks in before Diego comes home, surprises her and tries to seduce him. Despite her best efforts, Diego resists her. So she decides to quit and move on. But not with the weird student guy Patrick, who announces that he's available. Danny considers Carrie "the whole package". He explains to Kurt that he's waiting for the exact right moment to strike. Kurt thinks Danny actually has fear of intimacy. Jesse has too much work to do to go to lunch with Carrie, so Patrick volunteers. Much to his amazement, Carrie accepts. At 1 a.m. the following night, Diego goes to bring Linda home since her date Chuck ditched her. After hearing that Linda still plans to see Chuck again, Diego tries to get into her head that she needs someone "nice". The following day Linda tells about this to Jesse, and claims that Jesse dumped the greatest guy in the world. Jesse disagrees - it all comes down to the fact that Diego wants "all or nothing". And suddenly she starts to think about it again...

Season 2, Episode 8: L'Eggo My Diego

Linda provides Jesse with crucial info on the mystery woman Jesse saw enter Diego's apartment: From what Linda could understand of their speech, her name is Irma and she is Diego's childhood-ex. She may have come to rekindle the old relationship, but she still did not - at least yet - sleep in the same bed as Diego. Danny thinks he's making progress with Carrie. Even though Carrie earlier had no time to go have some coffee, Danny has decided to try again - but not before consulting Jesse. Then he actually gets a "yes" from Carrie. Jesse goes to introduce herself to Irma and hears some shocking revelations.

Season 2, Episode 9: The Christmas Party

16 December 1999
Little John is going to New York to see his father and Jesse is having a Christmas tree trimming party. Naturally, Kurt, Linda, Danny and Carrie are invited, but Jesse decides to also invite Diego and Irma. Diego then offers to hang the Christmas lights outside Jesse's house. Later, Diego and Irma stop by to announce that they can't come because Irma already had tickets to the mayor's charity ball. Which also means that Diego doesn't have the time to hang the lights. Jesse gets fixated on her anger towards Diego and starts venting it out on everyone else. Add the antipathy already existing between Linda and Kurt and you do not have a good start for a party. And things are only about to get more tense...

Season 2, Episode 10: Jesse as Nurse, Fills In: Diego Throws Ice at Children

Diego is trying to shovel his yard clear of snow, but three kids keep having a snowball war that undoes his every effort. So he has to drive them away. Linda does not approve. At the Student Health Center, Jesse faces an emergency: Carrie has found a squirrel lying outside, in the snow, an has brought it inside. Danny's first guess is that the squirrel is hypothermic and asks Kurt to take it to the exam room. But Kurt refuses to touch the nurse, so Danny enlists Jesse as a nurse in Kurt's place. Back at Diego's yard, Linda manages to provoke Diego into a snowball war.

Season 2, Episode 11: Kurt Slips, Niagara Falls

Linda is pressuring Jesse to talk with Diego about their "magic moment" during the Christmas party. Jesse is reluctant, but then she sees that something is troubling Diego. He lost a professorship to a Kubist. She tries to cheer him up. There is *a* moment, but still no more talk. At the Health Center, Danny misses Carrie, who is on a trip (nooooo! No Jennifer Milmore in this episode!). One of the discs in Kurt's spine ruptures and he's hospitalized. Luckily for Jesse, Kurt's doctor, Jeff, shows interest in her. Unluckily for Kurt, his nurse, Rosemary (a pre-'Alias' Merrin Dungey), is his old nemesis from nursing school. Jeff asks Jesse out, but Jesse says she's "expecting to be involved with someone". Upon returning home, Jesse gets good news from Linda: Irma is packing! But it's not because she's returning to Chile, it's because Diego and Irma are going to Niagara Falls for the weekend...

Season 2, Episode 12: Small Time Felon: The Jesse Warner Story: Part 2

One morning, Jesse finds out that her car has been stolen. Luckily for her, it was an *insured* "piece of crap", which means she gets money to buy a better one. But not much better. Carrie has a problem for which she needs advice from Jesse: she thinks that she and Danny are getting into a rut, sexually. Luckily for Jesse, Linda interrupts by barging in and telling that her cousin's shop has a '84 Volvo that Jesse can afford. Later, Carrie comes to ask advice from Jesse again, but Jesse tells her that she needs to ask from someone else. And there is only Kurt present... And he declines to help. Then Danny comes to ask advice from Jesse, who again urges to ask from someone else. And there is only Linda present... And she declines to help. Almost instantly after that, Kurt comes to Linda and asks her to tell Carrie not to come to him in search of advice. Linda says the same to Kurt about Danny. Then they realize the possibilities...

Season 2, Episode 13: The Rock

The girls receive reminders of their upcoming high school reunion. They have no intention of attending. But at the Health Center's "Flu Free Friday" (free flu vaccinations), Carrie announces that she wants to go to the reunion. He wants to show Danny off. And Diego wants Jesse to show him off. When Linda hears about the decision, she gets really upset at Jesse. Turns out Jesse always did what Linda told her to and now she does not take orders from anyone. But why is Linda so reluctant to go?

Season 2, Episode 14: Jesse Gives Birth

Jesse is hosting a movie night at her place, with Carrie, Danny, Diego, Kurt and Linda invited. Danny's pick, 'Last Tango in Paris', does not generate much excitement. Linda's pick, 'Ouch!, where people get hit by stuff, does not get the thumbs up either. Jesse asks for a comedy, and Diego has one - until he is told that 'Midnight Express' is not the same movie as 'Midnight Run'. This leaves Kurt's pick, 'The Sound of Music'. During the movie, Danny reveals that he played Rolf at the a singing camp. Diego reveals he would like to have seven kids and Jesse gets anxiety. Cue flashback to late 1980s when Jesse was on the ninth month pregnant, expecting Little John, but still adamant at seeing Guns n' Roses live. And fashion sense was dead.

Season 2, Episode 15: My Boyfriend Went to Chile and All I Got Was This Lousy Moustache

Diego returns from Chile - with HUGE mustache! He thinks they look "pretty nice", Jesse is petrified. Linda gets a job at the Health Center as a security guard. She has named Jesse her reference so the Head of Security has some questions for Jesse too. Turns out Linda may have exaggerated her achievements a little. Danny thinks Diego's mustache is "muy macho", but Diego tells him that he's gonna shave it off because Jesse doesn't like it. Danny has only one comment: Whipped! So Diego decides not to shave it off. which is not okay with Jesse. Linda announces that she's gonna take her job seriously. Nobody just realizes how seriously.

Season 2, Episode 16: Jesse's Coat a Useful Crutch, Diego's Kitchen, Not So Much

Jesse sees Diego's kitchen and points out that it's "really gross". Diego says it's Linda's mess and that instead of cleaning after her as usual, he has decided to see how long Linda can live in her own filth. Jesse states that he's going to lose. Neither is aware that Linda knows about Diego's plan. At the Student Health Center, one of the students does not believe that Jesse works there because she doesn't have a lab coat. Then a delivery guy does not believe she works there. Jesse pleads Kurt to give him a lab coat, but Kurt declares that it is awarded to her when she has "demonstrated consistency and capability as a nurse's aid". Kurt is not convinced yet.

Season 2, Episode 17: The Dump

2 March 2000
Diego hasn't seen the Sun in 38 days and can't take it. Carrie and Danny are finally going out, just the two of them - so far, every time they've been somewhere, Diego has invited someone to join them. Then, Danny sees Diego and invites him, Jesse, Kurt and Linda on his and Carrie's dinner. The evening does not go well. How to make Diego and Danny normal?

Season 2, Episode 18: Diego's First Sleepover

Jesse is getting her birthday present early: Little John is having a sleepover at Gabe's and the following morning they're going to go skating, so Jesse can spend a romantic night with Diego. Linda arrives from her boxing class and brags about her skills, so Carrie says she could beat her - so they decide to have a boxing match. Which Danny does not approve of because he is a pacifist. Then, on Jesse's special night, Little John stops by to fetch the skating helmet he forgot and sees Jesse and Diego half-naked.

Season 2, Episode 19: First Blood

25 May 2000
Diego only does not get the professorship he was expecting, but the University is bringing in a visiting professor from London and Diego has to share his studio with him. As Diego needs his job to stay in the USA, he can not afford to protest. This Dawson, or more specifically "just Dawson" as he himself puts it, proves to be an incredibly irritating person. Can Diego control himself? At the Health Center, Jesse learns that the nurse's aide before her earned more and wants to know why. Danny and Kurt tell Jesse that the previous aide had a license to take blood. Jesse doesn't. So she wants to learn. Can she stay conscious through the actual procedure?
